String tension strangeness

I'm sorry, I've used for years the ECB81 in medium scale (on a Mustang), short scale (on a Gibson SG, Danelectro Longhorn and Ibanez Mikro) and long scale on different Fender basses.
never ever experienced this difference in construction.

same with every short, medium and long scale set of D'Addario EXL and Prosteel, and Ernie Ball.

the only set that may differ is the Rotosound RS77 set in long and short/medium scale, because it changes in the outer wrapping, which on short scales is flatter and smoother.

I don't get it...

most brands use the same exact gauge and construction, and as pointed by @HaphAsSard , che ratio tension/scale confirms that they are the same exact strings.

many other brands tend to use lighter strings on short scale sets (like Rotosound, which has 40-90 sets for short scale, only one gauge, except the nylons, which have the same gauge).

so the equation shorter scale = thicker strings is only in the head of users, and for my long time experience with short scales (from 28 to 32"), lighter strings work better, and the difference in tension is not so evident.
I've had 28, 30 and 34" basses with the same exact strings, and they felt the same, with the same setup made directly by me with my measurements.

so there is no evidence at all that the short scale sets have different construction.

That's fine; however the fact remains the same, generally the shorter the scale, the heavier gauge you require to achieve the same tension with the same materials.

Also telling me that what I'm stating is 'in the head of users' while telling me 'they felt the same' in the same paragraph made me lol.

Maybe fidget with a string tension calculator or something similar. Might give you a better idea.

they ARE the same strings, the difference in tension is due to the strings, and the actual difference is not comparable with gauges. if you put a 50-105 on a short scale, it still has more tension than a 45-100 long scale.
