Strings for a good growling punk tone?

So right now I'm using a set of elixirs and to be honest right now, they last a very long time but they're just not cutting it for me sound wise. I've tried early ball regular slinky's, as with GHS, and well I think they're better, they're not exactly the type of sound I'm looking for. I've heard DR is a pretty good brand for bass strings. Anyone else know of some bass guitar strings that give a really deep punk like growl?

Roto 66 SS are always a good place to start. They have their unique sound, nothing quite like them. Some question their longevity, but after their break-in period, they keep that sound a long time. Too much zing annoys me anyway.

If you are open for flatwounds, Cobalt flats (40-95) and Fender 9050L are worth considering.

All these strings growl on my Jazz Bass.

Dunlop Super Brights. These bite and growl, watch out!
Thanks! I will check them out! And by the way you guys, what should I turn my amp settings to for playing punk? Usually, I just turn down the bass setting all the way down and then crank up the equalizers, but I'm not sure if I should turn the bass setting up halfway little bit to get a little bit of extra depth in my playing

I've heard those are pretty good. How much do those typically go for on traditional markets like a guitar center and Amazon

I wouldn't rely on guitar center or Amazon to price your bass strings. To save you money, go to bassstringsonline.com and browse through the many selections of Bass strings Jason has to offer :)

Honestly depends on what kind of style you want your bass to sound like? My punk band that has a mixture of surf rock influences, I have the bass tone half way and the treble at 75% dialed in. I also have the mid at 50% just mess around with your Lo and Mid controls and see for yourself how you like it.
