Strings for a good growling punk tone?

So right now I'm using a set of elixirs and to be honest right now, they last a very long time but they're just not cutting it for me sound wise. I've tried early ball regular slinky's, as with GHS, and well I think they're better, they're not exactly the type of sound I'm looking for. I've heard DR is a pretty good brand for bass strings. Anyone else know of some bass guitar strings that give a really deep punk like growl?

Depends on your bass. Different brands sound better on some basses.
If your going to be changing your strings out often, get the Roto 66's, really is one of the best strings.. but they don't last long.
Otherwise just get Ernie balls and save yourself the money. I've (personally) never taken strings off faster than when I installed Dunlops. Terrible strings.

Rotosound Swing Bass 66 stainless steel strings are what get my vote. (RS66LD)

Pretty cheap at around $18-20 per pack and last a good couple of months before they lose the majority of their tone. I've used a few different steel strings and I'd always recommend to try these out as a good foundation for anyone's string journey.

First of all the words" punk and tone" do not match!!
Punk and noise ? absolutely !
In my opinion For punk theres no such thing as tone!! Any strings will do ! Who the hell will notice any type of tone from any Instrument in punk! Trust me it Wont make a bit of a difference wish strings u use! ! For a gd growling punk sound or noise !
(not tone) all you need is one thing..
LOUD !! Bass at 10! Mids at 10 treble at 10 !

a 2000 Watt amp along with 2 15s and 4 10 cabs! Yeap you guessed it.. also at 10+!! Punk & tone? Lol..
A terribly narrow and uneducated theory.

For once I actually agree with you. There has to be SOME type of way to get a proper punk bass tone other than to just "crank it up to 11". To everyone, I will try rottosound when I can save up enough money (college kid life lol!) to buy new bass strings
My recipe is pickstyle, stainless rounds(Dunlop SuperBrights), Bass eq at noon, pumped low and high mids, treble set flat. YMMV.

I don't think there is such a thing as a proper punk bass tone. There's no right or wrong in punk, that's part of what makes it great! Growly is fine, if you want growly, take these suggestions and go for it, but if you think it has to be growly because you heard it like that on a record, I think you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Roto 66 SS. I avoided them forever but now that I have finally given them a chance they are my favorite round for the sound you are describing.

I agree. I've had that same predicament before and started to grow an appreciation with Rotos. Only downfall is that I buy them for my headless Bass which cost $30 a set. With my experience with Rotos longevity, they only last me 2 months before its time to buy another set..
