strings for Stingray?

I still have the set of Slinky's that came with my current Stingray and I like them. However, I *loved* the DR Lo Riders I put on my last one. Loved the feel, they lasted a long time, and they sounded fantastic.

Lately I've been wondering how flats would sound on it, too. I love how Chromes sound on my fretless.

just wheterever you use DONT PUT labellas stainless. let me tell you my story. put a set of labella "slappers" and "supersteps" too. result: i was going to sell my Ray. unfortuonely to my own goodness nobody bought it. witihn time i switched to some hartke 3 pack piece of %^$*$*%^ i bought. result: even knowing those are bad string, with no intinnation and balance at all their sound was better. My 2 cents to all Ray owners: DONT PUT ANY LABELLA STAINLEES on your bass. about another brand know nothing.

I've been using DR lite Stainless on my stingray5. Been happy with them so far.
Tried Ken Smith and D'Addario. I find I get a much clearer sound with the smaller strings (40-120).
Thought about putting some of the DR Marcus Miller strings on...somehow I don't think it will improve my playing...

I think every brand has been mentioned. Well done. :)

It all depends what you're looking for. I have found GHS Boomers lately come pretty close to what I want for a string on an EBMM bass; smooth sound, and some added bass response.

I've been using D'Addario EXL220-5 40-125 5 string sets for over 5 years on my fretless ray-5... pretty much about the most consistent string I've ever used...

They're perfect for playing over the pickup ... a tad loose playing up towards the neck - but that helps to provide "voice" on the ray-5 fretless fretboard.

So last weekend I used my $25 Guitar Center coupon for a set of Hi-Beams for my SR5. Wow, I think I found the string that SR5 likes. :bassist:

Update, while the Hi-Beams were very nice, once they settled in, they were a little scooped sounding on my SR5. I picked up a set of Sunbeams and everything is right with the world. I just think the Stingray sound is with the nickels. Just my opinion.

Hi-Beams are the shiznit for my Fender AmDlx Jazz V and will remain on there. I guess you gotta feed'em what they like. :D
