strings how often do you change yours?

I don't change strings very often, sometimes going years with same set. I don't really care for the brittle brightness of new roundwounds. When they have been played and on the bass awhile they stay in tune better and sound smoother. I use nickel usually rotosound heavier gauge 45-105 on a 4 string.

When the mood strikes me. When they’ve lost elasticity and/or won’t intonation properly. When they’ve got little dents in them from frets (when there are frets there to cause this). When they sound ‘too’ dead.

I’m wildly inconsistent. Seldom more often than every couple of months. Seldom less often than every few years.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I like Bobby Vega's answer, to the extent of: change your strings whenever you're no longer happy with their sound.
