Strings that growl

Dunlop SS Super Brights, no bass player should ever use an Ernie Ball string.

Well, guess what, I use super slinky on my MM and they work great. Going strong 4 months in now. Tried the Dunlop Super Bright and they're nice, but I prefer the tension and balance of super slinkies. I have no problem getting my 2 band ray to growl.
And I hate SS strings..

To me "growl" is in the mids, not the zingy highs. I've found D'addario Flex Steels to be extremely growly on both J and P basses. Never tried them on a 'Ray.

I totally agree with the FlexSteels. I have them on 2 P/Js and a J and they are really aggressive sounding.

For that "growl", I would have to go with Dunlop Super Bright Nickels. DR Fat Beams are nice as well.

No one's mentioned DR Lo Riders? These are the growliest DR strings I've played by a substantial amount (and I've played Hi-Beams and Fat-Beams)... Though I haven't tried some of the others mentioned.

I don't know if it's unique to this bass, but I have NYXL 45-100 on my Aerodyne and very growly, though not especially bright up top.

^ K I'm convinced. My Flex steels growl up a storm as well, but the roughness of the stainless steel is making my slides annoying. I might be back to nickels soon.
