It starts on the last 4 bars of the first A of an ABAC tune...
I'm picking out melodies for a little while whenever I pick up my bass these days, and I needed to get the words to this one to really hear where the melody went , rhythmically.
Isn't it romantic?

Great idea....my MAN! I hate to say that i've been doing that for a while.
I wish you and I could convince some of our bass brethren of the different things that knowing the lyrics can do to help you in so many different ways. In your case, one of the most handy tricks.... to learn melodies correctly. You end up knowing that if there's an extra word, there has to be a note to match!

This may be old hat to some of you fellows but I've found that playing the meoldy is a perfect way to start creating a good bass line. If it's a song of which I have zero knowledge regarding the harmonic structure I've found that I can usually get the gist of it within three verses or so.

If the note you choose as accompaniment works with the melody note, it's pretty much gonna work with the harmony.
