I just want to make sure though. With a 300 watt amp driving an 8x10 cab, the power is distributed evenly across the 8 speaker (assuming they have the same resistance) correct?

So 300 watts into an 8x10 means 300/8=37.5 watts per speaker...

Yep. Of course the actual amount of wattage will vary considerably, but whatever it is will be divided by 8.

Not a stupid question. Wattage to speakers is VERY missunderstood. Even more is how Ohms figure in.

I honestly have no idea why folk find this so difficult. It's so simple when it applies to speaker systems.

Would it not be exactly the same? I mean, as long as the coils are intact. If the coils are shot, then there is no math, it's completely FUBAR.

Heh. Coz practially every 810 cab I've ever seen for sale used ends up having some bad drivers, and often some of the bad ones are fully blown.

So ya gotta factor that in ; }

Yeah, but then they become passive radiators.

Mostly they become passive interference generators and frequency soaks. But one must also note the unique protective coloration a used 810 design affords: wherein the not-so-cognizant user doesn't notice that some drivers are bad, and thus plays the thing hard until MORE drivers go bad ; }
