Stupid Questions...

Ok; I hope I don't step on anyone's toes but I have some questions that have been bugging me as a novice player:

A) What's the purpose of fanned frets? Dingwalls seem to have them a lot and I have seen a few Wishbasses with them (although I think they weren't done by Wish). Easier to reach the positions?

B) Is the Epiphone LP bass good? I saw one in a "Bass in a box" package on MusiciansFriend but I want to know if they are, well, good. I haven't played one so...

Fanned frets make it so that the string tension is (more) uniform across all of the strings and makes the sound a lot more even and clear. They are relatively rare in the bass world.
