Sub bass distorting

So ive been playing my Sterling by musicman sub bass and I think the pick up is dying. Theres been distortion from just that bass (well maybe not distorting its like that buzz kinda distorted background noise like when amps or speakers go bad) but i changed the battery in it, tried different cables, tried it with just a210, then 410, and a 115, and all my basses and no matter what as long as im playing my SUB bass its doing the noise.

I think its the pickup or something. Can a pickup giving out do this?

These basses have a very hot Preamp in them . Depending on how far up you have the Vol pot it could just be overdriving the Preamp (input section) of your Amp. what kind of amp are you using?

Ashdown mag 300 combo I think its called, its not mine its my dad which im borrowing until i can afford a new head.

I suggest lower the pickup.
You might have to get it down almost flush with pick guard.

Also, if you have a pad switch on your amp, use it.
I had to do the same with my Sub Ray5.

you have to do the wire swap mod on the preamp. the preamp is wired directly to the output jack when it should be wired from the volume pot

Thanks guys for the help/info. If it starts to do it worse and more often (it does it on and off) I'm taking it to my set up guy since im not exactly a electrical and wireing expert and don't want to make it worse. At least I now have an idea of what I might need to pay for

Doing a setup and working on electronics are two entirely different skill sets.

He's also like really good with electronics (hes like one of the main head dudes at the place) I never had him do electronics for me but my dad does, and my guitar/bass teacher uses him to
