Sub4 Stingray Clipping

So I have been playing this bass for a while, loving the feel of it but I simply can't get it to sound good. I did the electronics mod as advised in a thread on this forum but the signal still clips, very annoying farting sound. What would be the next logical step, replacement electronics, new pickup? Thanks for any suggestions.

My bass amp is a Hartke HA2500, all knobs point straight up, no EQ on the amp... the Stingray knobs are always maxed out because that is the tone I'm looking for. I do plug it into the active input for the amp. Farts on the low end, tried DI recording and the signal clearly shows clipping.

Try lowering the pickup and reducing some of the eq on your bass.

It's pretty fair to say that your bass is farting, not the cab. They will be at different frequencies I'm sure, but reduce the bass on the Ray and up it on your amp. You want to cut some of the gain hitting your amp. Have you also tried a new battery?

The wiring is fine, I made sure it is exactly as the scheme. I admit my bass cab isn't too good (I have an old Fender guitar box and 2x10 speakers in there) but it is not the problem, doesn't fart with my jazz bass. I did replace the battery too. The pickup is lowered but I can't afford to lower it anymore, can't fingerpick it then.

You need to roll down the bass knobs and get some low end out of your amp. The reason it is farting is because the signal is too hot coming out of the bass.

Okay so I tried it today at practice and it does seem to solve the farting mostly (there is still a weird buzz in there) but compared to my stock SX jazz bass, the Stingray sounds very lifeless. No real punch, no nice overdriven grit. Any other suggestions or should I look into a new bass?
