Submarine pt 2

For those that were never able to jump on the submarine bandwagon, it looks like the zeibek eBay store dug up a few NOS with the ultra bass toggle that they never sold when operational. I picked up a backup this morning and there are a couple left if you search. I did ask if he happened to have any submarine designers hidden away but he didn't even keep one for himself

And it looks like they're gone. Good while it lasted. Now I just need mojo hand/tone factor to find some cream pies and maybe some meat boxes and deep impacts for good measure

What is a Submarine?

It's like the Klon Centaur of bass pedals...people pay quite a bit for it because they're convinced that it gives them a magical tone that could not otherwise be achieved. I owned one once and my own take is that it's easily one of the more over-hyped pedals out there.

It's in essence a pre-amp pedal loosely based on the fender tone stack. You can get a little bit of drive with it similar to an old bassman head or a mesa 400. It is a subtle pedal, not a full on overdrive or anything. A couple of years ago they were selling for around $200 in the classifides. The fuzzrocious BDPG is supposed to be the modern take on it. Like the other pedals mentioned above, once it was no longer available it gained mystical status.

I owned one a few years back (sold it on TB for a c note) and to my ears, it sounds similar to a BBE or Aphex Bass Exciter.

I was amazed when my Ebay search notifier popped up telling me there was a Sub for sale. By the time I got there they had sold 3 of the 5 so I snapped one up.

I've never owned a Zeibek pedal but they've gotten such rave reviews here I've been waiting for an opportunity to try one out. Can't wait 'til it gets here.
