Double Bass Substitute for Spiro weich G?

I swapped strings this evening: took off the Spiro weich G and put a Perpetual mittel G on in its place.

All hints of buzzing have disappeared. Thank you all for the tips!

PS: No response back from Thomastik, almost two weeks after I emailed them. I got an initial reply acknowledging my query, but that was it.

I know this is an older thread, but how did you like the Perpetual G on top of the Spiro Weichs?

I tried the S42 Weich set again earlier this year, but after a little over a month felt the D & G were a little too thin sounding. But I did like the E & A. I’ve heard detuned 3/4 solos are a good alternative.

I love the S42 Mitts, but I’ve been doing a lot of Big Band gigs recently and the tension is starting to take its toll on my right hand.

I had a similar situation which forced me to dress a board four times. After each time a Spirocore Mittel buzzed, yet the string looked and felt perfect. A new string fixed it.
I’m loving an Oliv G with 3885 Weichs but think S42 Weichs might not match up as well. 3885 G, Perpetual or maybe a Superflex Solo.

I have had some buzzing issues on my bass w s42mittel g string; even had the fingerboard dressed and it still would buzz on a few notes.
I’ve been using 3885 weich and olive G as well, but now that the weather is changing Iam chasing that oliv everywhere. Thinking of throwing on the evah weich g

Honestly, you might try a Perpetual G. I’ve been using regular Perps over a Weich E string and it’s been working pretty well for me. A lot of cats seem to like the Stark Perpetual G better, even comparing it to the Oliv.

I know this Threads old but if anyone else is going down this road what I’ve always come back to is sticking with Thomastic but a Belcanto G… I’ve been using 3885W E and A and Belcanto D and G for a while and they work really well together on a bass which is pretty much hybrid and used for heaps of different styles arco and pizz…

Yeah agree, they have a nice Pizz sound and also that the E is a bit weak… on my bass the 3885 A also seems to blend really nice. I’ve had the Bel G on for about 2 years and still sounds good both arco and pizz, the D about a year. The spiros are about 3 years now and sound great… recently had new set up (by the amazing Matthew Tucker) and the bass has really found it’s happy place!
