In that case your unit will simply override the built-in one in the Mesa. No biggie.

Subway D-800 question

Yeah, I guess you're right. Hmmm... Guess I should've figured that one out! Lol.
I also use a D-800 with a Broughton HPF. No issues. Works great. I usually don't dial much of the low end out with the Broughton, depends on what cabinet I'm using.
Cool. It's nice to see that others are using an "outboard" HPF as well.
Does anyone know if the fans in either D800 is quieter than the fan in the original Walkabout?
The noise of that fan keeps me from playing my Walkabout in quieter home and studio settings, which is a bummer.

Don't know about the Walkabout, but the D800's fan is pretty quiet, I don't usually notice it. In my opinion you likely won't find a bass amp with a quieter fan, though obviously some amps don't have one at all.
I owned both the D-800 and the D800+
I sold the d800+ and kept the D800
Just like the smaller form factor and prefer the basic EQ layout
But i do use the Brougton HPF with it and prefer it over the D-800+

Yes I like the D800 over the d800+ the broughton wasn't in the decision at all excpt I know it works well with all my amps
The d800+ with the extra eq and hpf controls just had me twisting knobs all the time (but thats just me) some may enjoy the extra functions

I tried the 800, 800+ and the WD800. I liked all of them. The 800 did not have the HPF and was too basic, the WD800 had too many choices hard to dial in sound. The 800+ was jst right. Love it.
I can throw anything from it at my 2x 12s Schroeder's with out using the HPF. However when I use it at practice on the Peavey 2x15, its a must have or the Black Widows would be falling out of that cab. They cannot handle what the Mesa sends it , so using the HPF makes them sound actually pretty good.
its the only Non Tube amp I don't need to use my VT Bass Deluxe in front of.
This thing sounds just as good or better than an SVT (I have A/B'd it to mine)

The fan is MUCH quieter in the Subways. The quieter fan was one of the original goals of the Subway series.
Huh. I really treasure the two variable mid-range controls, which allow me to boost the low-mids and suppress gank and clank in the upper mids. Pretty much set and forget, except when switching to fretless. And big love for the variable HPF, as a 5-string player.

Haven't heard the Walkabout fan, but I've never even noticed my D-800 has a fan.
Early on somebody posted asking about how loud the fan was on the D800. Me being a moron replied something like 'the fan is silent because there IS no fan!'
I honestly didn't realize it had a fan, despite it being clearly visible on the back. It's that quiet

Have you had a chance to play through any of the Subway amps and/or, do you already have a Broughton?
I ask because I was thinking that for the price of an hpf or an hpf/lpf on top of an 800, you could just get the 800+ or WD.

Good question and thanks for asking. I currently have a Fender Rumble rig (500 head and Rumble 410 and 115 cabs). Since the Rumble head doesn't have a built-in HPF, I decided to get the Broughton. I am making a transition to all Mesa gear. It's expensive so it will most likely be a slow process. I'm selling items from my "guitar" days and will hopefully be purchasing my first Mesa product very soon... The Subway 115 cab. My next move will be one of their D Series heads. Probably the D-800. Soooooo looking forward to rockin' with a Mesa!!!
I also play through a D-800 with a Broughton HPF/LPF pedal. The Broughton is very useful. I usually set the HPF anywhere between 40 and 60 Hz.
Yeah, unless the room requires more, I usually have my Broughton set at 45-ish, I guess maybe technically that's not audible but I notice it. Or I feel like I do.
