Another one that I'm currently reading that you might like is 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' by Philip K Dick. It was the inspiration for the movie Blade Runner. I'm enjoying it a lot. Very different from the movie.

Bringing Forth the End of Days by Simon Law is pretty good too. It starts a bit slow but really gets rolling.

The Hunger Games trilogy: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. Not much of a novel reader myself, but they are so popular now and I couldn't put any of them down (read them in order).

Threat by Richard Jessup. An 80's page turner about a guy that ransoms a super-high-rise luxury building in NYC.

The plot & ending will keep you guessing. A sleeper novel but one you'll read over & over. 250 pages.

I just finished "an island to oneself" by tom neale.

probably one of my favorite books ever, biography of a guy who drops everything at 50 years of age to go and live alone on a small island in the pacific!

Great story and well written.

Neal Stephenson's novels about...well, they're not so much "sci-fi" as "reimagined futures"... might fit OP's jones. I found both Snow Crash and The Diamond Age highly engaging and rather different from run-of-the-mill airport paperback novels.

Not a part of the OP's genre suggestions, but a really good read is "The First Law" trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Sword and sorcery fantasy, light on the sorcery VERY heavy on the sword.

If you like suspense/horror, pick up an H P Lovecraft anthology. Some of the stories drag, but the writing is excellent.

On the nonfiction front, John Adams by David McCullough was great.

In-between fiction and nonfiction is Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. He comes across as a bit of an ass at times, but great insight into restaurant kitchens.

When I read fiction, I usually like comedies. I've enjoyed most of Christopher Moore's books, and also the 'Rex' trilogy by Eric Garcia - Anonymous Rex is the first one.

Vertical Run is one of the only books I ever read as if I was a crack addict. It's a fast-paced action thriller and a fun easy read.

I'll have to read that one. Ive never been let down by a Vonnegut book.

Ive read Slaughterhouse Five, Cats Cradle, Sirens of Titan, Breakfast of Champions, and Galapagos. All very good books!

Same here. I plan on reading it again over the summer. I just picked up the Hunger Games trilogy, not great literature by any means, but apparently a good and easy read regardless. I am looking forward to it.

Great book, allthough I would suggest something in a whole different genre, namely "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson.
