Suggest a round core roundwound string

I love DR. Different sets for different applications, but Hi-beams, Pure Blues, and Sunbeams (their nickel-plated steel set) are standouts. I also like the Fat Beams but they are stiffer than the other sets. Sunbeams are soft and very flexible and they have a great sound IMO.

Yes, the TI Jazz Rounds are outstanding and truly unique. They're one of the best electric bass strings ever made IMO. I'm still a bit wary about recommending them to others because the TIJRs are so different from any other strings. I suspect a large percentage of bass players won't like them due to the extreme flexibility and ultra-low tension. These strings will not only require a very different setup, they will probably also need you to adapt your style of playing.

If you're willing to do this the TIJRs are in a class of their own. Yes, GLORIOUS is a good way of describing them. The amazing thing about them is that even with their incredible flexibility and ultra-low tension they are perfectly capable of holding a steady pitch. They don't go BOOooiiIIING like many other low tension strings. Even the short scale sets are great! They are also far less prone to buzzing than I would have suspected from such light tension/gauges. Your bass needs to be in good shape though and the setup needs to be perfect. Any issue with the neck/frets will definitely come to the surface with the TI Jazz Rounds. Even the TI Jazz Flats feel stiff by comparison!

I'm not sure TIJRs are the right choice if GHS Round Core Boomers are too dark though. At least not compared to a relatively fresh set of RC Boomers. The Boomers will be much brighter out of the box. Of course the RC Boomers go dead relatively fast whereas the TIJRs just mellow out very slightly and then seem to live forever so in the long term the TIs will definitely stay brighter and fresher but they will have no metallic "zing" whatsoever, just a nice upper mid presence. A warm, organic tone with superb clarity and a kinda "orchestral" vibe is what the TIJFs are all about.

I’m a DR Sunbeams guy when it comes to rounds but also have TI Jazz Flats on two of my basses. Do you think I should give Jazz Rounds a shot?

I'm just getting back into digging roundwounds. I usually use nickel coated rounds. I've been using GHS Boomers and really like the sound, but are a bit stiffer than I prefer. The round core version is a darker string than I want. Are the LaBella roundwounds a round core? I love LaBella flats and tapes. What do you into?

I really like the Kalium hybrid string, round core, equal tension, nickel (so they don’t rust), mine last a long time. Their 5 string set with a .136” B sound good and solid, not flabby like so many 5 string sets.

Yes I definitely think you should try them but I'm not sure you will like them.;)

Jazz Rounds are VERY different from Sunbeams or from any other strings for that matter. They might become your favourite strings but they really are completely different to ANY other electric bass strings. The Jazz Flats are stiff by comparison. Sunbeams have a much brighter and more metallic zingy tone than the Jazz Rounds.

Jazz Rounds are completely off the scale when it comes to flexibility, low tension and warm, organic roundwound tone. As much as I personally love them they are definitely not for everyone.

La Bella doesn't offer anything with a round core.

If you want a round-core string for flexibility, but something brighter than the Round Core Boomers, try a few of the DR offerings, such as Hi Beams (stainless steel), Pure Blues (nickel-steel alloy) and Sunbeams (nickel-plated steel).

Also, Dunlop Super Bright Nickels... Although they're hex-core, due to the small core diameter, they're almost as flexible as the round-core strings by DR.

My favorites are DR Sunbeams, DR Pure Blues and GHS Boomer RC.

Cool - I’ve got Pure Blues on my Jazz now and like them, and I have a set of NYXLs waiting to try next, though the Blues seem to be lasting quit a long while (sounds like a song).
Yeah, at one point I had Pure Blues on my Jazz and Sunbeams on my Precision and then I swapped/reversed them and all was right with the universe. They wore those strings for three years or so and now, only my active bass’s wear round wounds. The passive J, P, and PJ now wear TI Jazz Flats, Legends and Labella black tapewounds, respectively.

Yeah, I’ve got rounds on my J and my Roscoe (nickel Lo Riders) and flats on the other four basses - a P bass, Sire V7 fretless. (both with TIs), a PJ (Fender 9050) and a Godin fretless (Chromes). So many good options!

I know for a fact they are hex core. Not to mention, I have some on my bench right now. Hex.
Maybe we are talking about a different string? I bought the hybrids, the equal tension strings, I in fact just bought my 2 sets last week, I looked at them with my jewelers eye loupe, they are in round core. I think maybe you and I are not looking at the same set of strings, or you are looking at an older set or something?

Yes, the Hybrid Nickels. They only make two types of bass strings...Nickel Plated Steel (Hybrid Nickels) and Stainless Steel. What makes them balanced is just the gauges they package together, nothing about the strings themselves. I got a set last week as well but I have not opened them yet. It's entirely possible they could have changed to round core, I will check the ones I got last week.

The only other possible difference is gauge, mine are .136" 5 string, curious now
