Hello everyone,

I've been lurking around and reading for a while.

I've been reading about building basses and trying to figure out if I can / want to undertake the effort to do so, and I was weighing the merits of possibly starting with a first project using premade parts.

Is this a pretty common path? How did most of you start building?

hmm...I know I got started because I decided to be cool and look in this forum for the first time. My life was changed.

I wouldn't be building now if it weren't for a few, very important factorsm but since they're there, I got lucky and have had a blast building my first one! I can't wait to finish and start another.

BTW, I'm 16, so if I can do, then you can do it.

How much did you know about woodworking? I don't know much and I was thinking about taking a night class at the community college and hoping they could teach me the fundamentals needed.

I didn't know anything, but my kick ass neighbor is THE guy to talk to about woodworking. He's one of those factors that allows me to build.

if you have a local woodcraft, or something similar, I would take their classes. They're expensive but worth the money.

The community college offers two night classes, one teaches hand tools and one teaches power tools. Each class is about $100. I've also got a friend that's good with woodworking but he's pretty busy as he's in medical school.
