Summertime and Fresh Fruit

When I was in the hospital in January, I was having a serious watermelon craving!!

Still my favorite summer fruit.

Used to live in a house with a ton of fruit trees, including figs. Fed my wife and the midwives figs off the tree between contractions when my second kid was born. They were wonderful. Had a dog who would climb the ladder I left by the fig tree and eat figs off the tree.

We used to be able to trade them with a little local store for other organic food, at a dollar apiece barter value. They always sold out at that price really quickly in the store, although I think the staff took a lot of them for themselves.

This week we have raspberries and goji berries. Gojis are more or less a weed and all the littlle yard birds do a great job of propagating them. Looks like we may get a decent pear crop this year, after nada last year. That's a very cyclical crop for us for whatever reason, but pears are a huge commercial business here and if we want some thay're never hard to find.

Wow! What a dog!

I have fond memories of eating figs off a Tucson tree when I was doing yard work as a side job.

We always look forward to July when the colorado peaches come in, I have a raspberry patch in the back yard that yields some lovely berries twice a year, this past month or so the local grocer has gotten some very nice asparagus that we have been grilling to go with a nice steak or pork chops
