Summoning Elite Troubleshooters

Glad you like your tone. I love the Audere.
Did it all solve your hum issue? I listened to the test and at times thought I heard some light hum even with the new setup. However, it sounded as though it would be easy to eq out using the Audere.
Anyway, like the sound a lot.
Cheers!
I won't say it solved my hum issue, but it (and/or the 96 art pickups) certainly reduced it, and greatly improved my tonal options. I'm going to refresh myself on the custom tone setting options the Pro Z has to see if I can improve the sound even more.

Good to hear you're happy with the direction this took and cool about possibly being a design tester, too.

Also, nice random Spaceballs reference in the comparison video.

Now, if you'll excuse me, it's lunch time and there's some Pigs in a Blanket and a beer calling my name.
That sounds like Friday food to me bud! Unless I forgot a Spaceballs reference which would be inexcusable as I have the Mel Brooks collection on BD.

Can't describe how much brighter the end of the tunnel looks with this gear. I was feeling very defeated, almost surrendering to the idea that this is as good as it gets. Now to sock away some funds for a Genzler Magellan 800 and Bass Array rig.

Glad to hear it! Genzler is killer, but don't overlook the Mesa Subway stuff. It's awesome. Mosey over to the Official Subway thread and have at it.

Good luck!!

Yep, Pigs in a Blanket and beer (Jalapeno Poppers, too) was a fig reference to post 237 and is a great combo on a convenient Friday. Especially when you're watching your copy of Spaceballs again for the first utterance of The Schwartz LOL.

Truth be told, I had hummus, Naan bread, and olives for lunch today.

I second bdplaid's suggestion to check out the Official Subway thread, if you haven't already. Genzler was on my short-list when looking for a new amp. I'm sure I would've been quite happy with it, too. The tie breaker was that the designer of the entire Mesa Subway line, agedhorse, is there all the time answering questions. I own the Subway 800+ now. Tempted by the later Subway models LOL.

So 96 art was way cool about letting me try three different types of pickups, and I found my perfect set. Made a video about it here (note the absence of hum due to the proper grounding at my buddy's house):

So regarding hum, my conclusions are as follows:
  • If there isn't a proper ground, nothing will prevent the crazy amount of EMI emitting from the power lines out front. However a well designed pair of split coils can greatly reduce it.
  • A friend suggested I try a Tripp-lite iso box, but I'm not into the idea of dropping another bunch of cash right now. Need to breathe for a spell.
  • Big brains watch over these forums, and I thank all of you for helping me.

I'm at wit's end trying to kill a 60 cycle hum in my bass I had built last summer.
Man, what a journey! One I got emotionally involved in along the way LOL

Really glad you're happy and content right now. Alot of leg work and intelligent follow-ups on your part. Not to mention the way cool videos you've posted along the way.

Thanks for this update. Most excellent.
