Sunn Beta Bass?

I am looking for an older amp with a nasty growl to stand in for my Traynor Mono Block II while it awaits repairs. I need something equally dirty. I found a Sunn Beta Bass for $279 canadian. It is a 100watt amp. Is that enough power to play along side two guitar players who think they are in Spinal Tap? Has anyone used one of these? Is that a good deal?

Solid state, not worth $279 Canadian IMHO. Maybe half that much. Also, that amp is almost 40 years old. It's due for service: new caps, etc. that will set you back another $75. So you will have $350 or more into a lousy 100 watt solid state amp...yuck.

Back in 1982-83 I had a Sunn Beta Bass 115 combo and loved it! Can't remember the wattage? One of those items I wish I would have kept in my inventory. I would grab it for that price.

Probably OK price for one of those by current standards. Not sure if the Sunn bubble is gonna burst, but the badge adds a lot more value that any other part, they seem fine amps though. Sunn bubble probably won't burst, the Vox and Marshall ones never did.

If that Beta Bass is fully functional. I want to say that's a good price, and that 100 watts is a loud 100 watts. It's got two versatile and combinable EQs, it's a pretty dirty sounding amp to boot.

With the right cabinet it will be loud. I used to use a Beta Lead for bass with a 215BH cab and it was loud enough with the volume on 2 to more than keep up with two half stacks and drums.

I had a Sunn Beta Bass head with matching 2x15 cab. More than enough power to keep up with a guitard playing through a Fender Twin Reverb at full blast, a Rhodes amped through a 300 W Peavey combo and a loud drumster. Great looking gear!

This was a million years ago, I think 1980. Wished I still had that amp...

Aaron from Red Fang uses the Beta Bass (the whole band uses Beta series amps), and he's got a super dirty sound and has no issues keeping up with 2 guitarists.
