After carefully analyzing and studying the two for quite awhile now...there is absolutely no doubt that Surf music is better than Punk in any form....

Music. It's silly to say one genre is better than another.
I love both styles dearly, but punk means far more to me.
No they weren't, they are merely incestuous cousins.
Surf music however is a definitive ancester of punk and skatecore.
There were a ton of talented musicians in that genre. I do agree surf was the main branch off which metal and punk spew
I love the Shadows. It's not strictly surf music but closely related. I'd love to do a cover band but don't think there is an audience for it.
Metal came from surf? Rockabilly may be the child of surf and country, but metal? Please draw me the family tree, and in my head I don't see that.
I've always thought that punk and hippies has too much in common not to be related somehow, but mostly for the anitestablishment views, DIy ethic, and how commonly they broke the previous generations rules. Sunshine 9f your Love (cream ) and Submission (sex pistols) are more closely musically related than my be first obvious.... but that seems more blues to me than surf.

In the sense like "rock and roll" is in the same lineage as RnB, yes I believe so. They don't have to be the same
I would argue Rockabilly predates surf however, linking back into the 40s
Always felt surf launched bass playing patterns more inline with eighth note structure, the use of effects and distortions, also the same way society generally accept metal now isn't much different than how surf was received.
No I don't think it's a perfect fit, but I don't think there is another genre of music from the early 60s that I would say metal stems from
In full agreement that bands like Cream had the influence on punk and metal as you noted
Proto metal musicians took heavy inspiration from the hard branch of instrumental blues rock, namely Link Wray. You could say surf and metal are cousins.
A long time later, Californian pop metal and skatecore took heavy inspiration from the Beach Boys and Deltones, retaining the happy merry-go-round feeling of it.
Also, rockabilly long predates surf music. It goes the other way round, surf music was born the day electric bassists decided to arpeggiate chords and walk like in rockabilly.
