Surf Music Is Better Than Punk..

Here's your missing link.

Now imagine this with a full Marshall stack, double kick and Lemmy's voice over it.

Lemmy also used to say that if motorhead had short hair they'd have been considered punk rather than metal!!

Either way, surf's influence on punk is undeniable!! Just check out the Dead Kennedy's...but better?? I disagree:)

Both Link Wray and the Stooges were "punk" before anyone was calling it that, IMO. Categories get painted with such broad strokes and there's so much cross-pollination it's pretty hard to draw any clear lines of delineation, especially between any of the myriad tendrils of rock'n'roll. "Punk" has been used to describe dozens of genres of music, some only barely related. Rock'n'roll has also been countless different styles of music over time, as has R&B. They're just words.

"Punk was whatever we made it to be." -D. Boone

Is this commonly asserted? If not, you should copyright the claim, great stuff.
I can always count on you for moderation during difficult times :)

I hate when people use the word better. How do you know it's better? How can you say it better? How is it better? Do you mean you like it better then punk? Like what's better about it? What does better even mean when it comes to this thread. I can go on forever, like how is surf " better "? And I'm not saying this in the way of sticking up for punk and saying punk is better cause that's not what I mean. Music is music, theirs all different genres and for most of it it takes some kind of talent, it takes emotion, some skill, passion, heart, and whatever else. I can't stand rap " oh punk is better then rap " no you can't say that. All music stands for itself, genre or not. I would rephrase the OP cause it's ridiculous. And one more thing, how can you even compare surf and punk? They're both unique and f$&@in awesome and sound nothing alike, so how is it " better ". Please explain

My $.02 worth: I get into lots of music, baroque to punk, country to Mexican gangster, r&b to hill billy hip hop, progressive to pop.

Surf music just doesn't make my list. If only that wipe out had ended with a leash wrapped drowning. Surf music is like lobster bait. Done right, it'll gag a maggot.

Of course, YMMV, IMHO, ect, ect.
