Surreptitious Post Editing

Has anyone else noticed a post of theirs being edited without any notice that it had been edited?

You mean the original post or when it's embedded in a reply or quote? I'm familiar with the latter when embellished or text has been altered by the responder with a "fixed it for ya!".

I'm referring to an original post. Some words were removed that were not in any way profane or illegal.

Can you cite what went missing? Mods will delete or alter sensitive text if it crosses thresholds but this action has historically been accompanied by a tag reflecting same.

I can't cite it or it will be removed again I don't disagree with the owners/mods editing. It's their forum they can do what they like and if I don't like it I can leave. There was no tag and no notice, hence my use of the word "surreptitious". I could have used a word to connote domestic fowl droppings.

Got it….no workaround wording, eh? I suffered the same when referencing a celebratory event gig…somebody reported it.

OTOH, I had great fun getting myself kicked-off "Next Door" for referencing "Risky Business".

My post was made in the context of a discussion about customs duties and tariffs. I mentioned the name of a rather well know person who has an obsessive interest in imposing tariffs. Verbotten.

I posted from my home laptop. The post appeared as I wrote it then, after some replies had been posted, it was edited without notice.

The context of duties and tariffs, and especially the figures who impose them, are definitely political topics, at least in the USA.

Given that, the moderator had 4 choices (the 4th being to ignore the violation... not the right thing to do.)
The first would be to give you a warning and points for the violation.
The second and third would be if they considered the post crossed the line but not far enough that they wanted to give you a violation (or that it quoted a post that had been deleted for violating the ToS), and to either delete it or edit it. In either case they would be given the option to notify the user. They might not do so, either because they were in a hurry and human, or because they thought that it wasn't worth causing a kerfuffle and didn't really alter the meaning or intent of your post.

Another alternative is that we're just evil sons-of-spawn.

Do remember that there's also a violation for questioning moderation. The word "verbotten" has a context of nazi-ism. Is that your intended use?

I am not allowed to respond to this but I must say in my defence that I did not question the moderation per se. In fact, I acknowledged the right of the owner/moderator to do as they please with their forum. I questioned editing without any notice, to me or to subsequent readers, that the original post had been edited by moderators.

I want to remember I read that post. Likely edited to avoid political discussions. While I understand that the moderators/owners want to keep this site free of political wars. In general, I find it sad and concerning that we cannot have adult conversations about certain topics. Just because my opinion differs from yours, that doesn't makes me a villain, patriotic, unpatriotic, socialist, fascist etc. Unless the topic is a p with flats, then my opinion is the only one that is valid. of course.

Does it really in the US (serious question)? As a German, to me, it's just the word disallowed and actually misspelled.
