SVT 200T problems

I've got an SVT 200T running through an ampeg 810. My bass is a G&L climax bass that I play passive, not active. I plug into the -15 dB input on the amp because the 0 db one peaks and/or limits too much. The problem is that I still get the limit light flashing too much when I play. The input gain is set at 5 and I'm not peaking anymore, just limiting. I dont' want to blow this amp, I love the sound. HELP ME!!!

Don't worry about the yellow limit light. That's just showing you that the limiter is doing it's job. If it really bothers you, you could always turn the limiter off. BTW I had an SVT200T that I used for ten years. Those were Ampeg's best sounding SS amp ever. Too bad they discontinued them. Also check your EQ and make sure you don't have a ton of bass boost. Is the ultra low boost knob pulled out? If so I'd push it back in for high volume applications. The G&L pickups are pretty hot also. Maybe put a compressor in between the bass and the amp? Just a suggestion. Not everybody like compressors.

thank you very much sir! What about heat? Mine gets really hot. Is that normal? SHould I face a fan on the back of it? I just love my amp and would hate to lose her.

Have any other tips for using the 200T? EQ settings? Effects loop advice? etc, etc You must know it inside and out....

Mine never got hot. That amp through an 8X10 cab would be pretty loud but not extremely loud. It seems like you are pushing it pretty hard. are you in a real loud band?
I used mine with an Ampeg 410 over an Ampeg 18 cab. My normal EQ was pretty much everything straight up at the 12 o'clock position. I never adjusted any of the tone controls further than 11 o'clock(cut) to 1 o'clock(boost) No bass boost unless I was playing in a soft volume situation.
I hate to say it but If you are pushing the amp to clipping to get enough volume to play in your band, you may need to get a more powerful amp. But first, I would try cutting back on the bass frequencies and boosting the mids. That should help you cut through the mix.

I had the SVT400T which is the same rig with biamp and dual power amps I believe.

In that rig, the output transistors were in a 'tunnel' and as you faced the amp, it drew air in the right side and blew it out the left, using a small fan. I replaced the fan twice I believe in 5 years or so ($25). It's was very quiet when it was running and seemed to fail pretty easily.
