SVT-4 or an eq pedal?

Im lookin into buyin a SVT-4 head, i played it at GC with a Jackson js3 and the tone was exactly what i wanted but i was wondering 2 things......
1. what is a good amp that can support that head?
My ideas: Hartke Hydrive 810, Mesa PH1000, Acoustic B810, or if i have to an Ampeg 810
2. I loved the head becasue of its graphic eq, which lead me to think; would a boss geb-7 do the trick or will it fall short

Current Rig: Esp Ltd b-104 straight into a Hartke kickback 15
I want a tight metallic tone
and would the eq pedal give me that tone
and i really want that sould volume isnt a concern.......yet

The EQ pedal paired up with the Hartke, or with the SVT-4? I'd think you can easily get a sound you like without an external EQ, but that's just me.

If volume isn't a concern, I'm thinking there are probably better/smaller choices than an SVT4 and an 810.

The smaller/lighter road seems real fun at first, but just like the 4 Pro doesn't do what the SVT-CL and VR do, micros don't do what the 4 Pro does. I'm a big fan of the 7 Pro, but I've played them side by side, and if the dude likes what the 4 Pro does, he isn't going to get that out of a micro.

Very true. I still say the 810 is overkill though, but who am I to bad mouth excess.

If I lived by myself and never worried about being loud I'd probably still have an 810 sitting in the corner of my living room. :D

+1

That head with the right cab doesnt even have to be a huge rig. Paired with the right cab you can get sick tone, good volume, and still not kill your back.

You guys are such girls ;)

Actually, I am down with the light cabs...I'm going to use my 69 SVT this weekend with two SVT 210av's from my Micro VR rig so I have no room to talk. But I'm not going to lie...it's not as awesome as the 810 for a live gig. I just get so much more raw power and balls out of a 810 compared to any other cabs I've played, even at the piddly volumes I play at, that I will never not recommend it with a big amp ;)

Well I put my big girl panties on, and then hit a fEARful with a 400 watt tube head.... :ninja:

I get where you are coming from on the big cab Jimmy, but if all Im doing is low volume practice with my dad's gig, I dont go to the practice space and grab the beast.

Seems like the obvious choice would be the 810e. My rig consists of a SVT 4 Pro with the 810 and I love it for my punk band & my reggae band although I never really use the EQ.

The 810e is a very heavy cab but actually it's easier to move around than my 410hlf since it's all about the fulcrum, if you have a pickup you just roll it over to the bed, tip it over and sling it in - no problem for my back...

Yeah, I just don't get all the belly-aching about cabs and weight and what not. Jim, you and I are old men, yet we do this every weekend :roll no:

Hell, these 20-30 year old guys that can't handle the weight of being a BASS PLAYER should have taken up the damn ocarina or accordion........:D

My advice guys? Start hitting the gym every now and again!! ;)

HA! YEAH I'm not alone! I'm 41 and lugging around my 810e doesn't bother me at all but I was beginning to think I was a freak.

But when I was a kid all the stages were 5' tall and there weren't any steps or ramps or PA's or...;)

Nope - you're no freak Brother! :D

Don't get me wrong here....I also own a MarkBass CMD121P that I use for rehearsals (and I LOVE it!) but when I go on stage, I prefer the big boys (unless it's not feasible due to stage restrictions - which is seldom).

Keep "toting that barge" Bro!! :D

I've got no problem with the weight of a large cab, it's just not practical for me to own.

I have no room for it in my house
Half of the bars we play are too small for it
It wouldn't fit in my car

I do want to get a Berg NV610 though. It'll fit in my car and the bars. Fitting in my house would be another story, and convincing my wife would be almost impossible. I'm still going to try once I figure it all out though...
