SVT-4 PRO consensus?

What is everyone's opinion on this amp? I've never tried one and I'm thinking it might be a good cheaper alternative to an Aguilar DB750/751 with a wack load of extra features. How does it score with everyone on tone/functionality/reliability?

I owned one briefly, killer preamp section IMO. Of all if the hybrid heads I've tried, it had
the tubey-est sound, although I haven't tried the Aguilar DB-750 or 751.

I returned it because I couldn't get huge volume from it, but there's a link somewhere here where people very familiar with the 4-Pro give tips on how to set it's controls to get more than enough volume/headroom out of it. Had I found this thread, I'd probably still have one, and I'd be using it a bunch. I absolutely loved it's tone.

A friend of mine had one for ages and I played and recorded it quite a bit. It sounded great with his MM Stingray. Great rock tone and was plenty loud enough through an 810. They are 1200 watts bridged into 4 ohms. Functionally it was good and he had no problems with it during the years I saw it.

Awesome amps. I used one for studio recording for three years and still have it today. Trick to getting headroom out of the amp is remembering that it's an amp with two power sections and hooking up your cabs accordingly.

Very smooth sounding preamp and has options for days if your recording or performing. I highly recommend reading the manual before using it.

I saved up for like 6 months back in '99 working as a Sandwich Artist at Subway to get one. My first real amp. You can imagine my dad was pissed when I brought it home (along with a clearance 2x15e) and started rattling the windows/entire neighborhood.

Aside from that I am not too fond of them. I think you can get a really nice acceptable tone out of it.

I just bought a used one couple months back and have been giging it on and off. It has really good tone for a hybrid amp. As others have said you need to read the manual before using it as there are so many ways to hook it up. I have run different cabs with it on gigs...610hlf mono, duel 610hlf stereo, 810 mono and stereo split cab. My favorite setup tone wise seems to be 810 mono mode just using one power amp. I have not tried bi-amping yet.

Below is the eq I ran this weekend, it was by far the best tone I feel I had out of it. With ultra low pushed in...this was my settings.

I will note I run the 4pro with ultra low on compared to not using it with my v4b. I don’t know what flat is on the 4pro, the v4b is flat at all noon...that could be some of it.

Had multiple DOA and then got one that worked for almost a month. Was the weakest claimed 1000watts that I had ever heard. Sold it and never looked back.
And yes... i understand how to hook them up... yes I used multiple cabs and basses and properly determined that the head(s) were the issue.
Currently using an SVP Pro preamp with a crest power amp. Love it

Great amps. Big and heavy though. I’d be happy to play through one but not as happy to haul away at the end of night.

As others have said they do pop up as backline heads. I’m happy to see one. And I would also be happy to play one as my main amp. Just find a lot of more portable options that work as well for me.

They do look menacing in a friendly sort of way.
