SVT 7 Pro Bought the farm

There was ONE type of NON-Ampeg cab that was MDF.... a powered monitor, and it was a disaster, just as I told them it would be..... chipped, broke, barely got to the store via UPS in one piece..... That got changed after about one run, and the people responsible got a "lesson learned"........

MDF sorry Vicodin and Valium r not a good mix but the pain in my neck is still bad I just had my surgery on 12/13/2010 last Monday so excuse the type o's I missed that one altogether. :)

I had such a problem with ampeg b1-re head a few years back. It was due to some poor soldering that went cold. not a huge issue, but it sucks when your new amp stops working after 2 weeks. Got it resolderd, played it for a year, and moved on to bigger and better things (peavey vb-2).

May I call yo Jay? I am only reporting what I saw and like I mentioned it my have not been a "newer" cab. I wasn't sure I didn't care at that point. I went in w a plan to buy an amp and possibly a cab but just got the amp sorry if I am screwing you up here. I am surely not saying you are not telling the truth I believe you. I just saw a cab that was not up to snuff. Like I said I love the Ampeg sound and always will. I am leery of the stuff that is out now and like I said I need really light weight stuff to cart around so most of the Ampeg stuff that I saw in the store did not meet my criteria. That is also why I got rid of my Hartke LH1000 it was to heavy. When I do gigs in the future I wanna make it out the door in one trip. If needed right now I can shoulder my USA Cirrus 10lbs tops plus shoulder the amp MarkBass SD1200 8lbs and wheel my Hartke 60lb cab out the door in one trip nothing can match tha.t I am in and out in 5 minutes now and it's less wear and tear on my neck/back. Hopefully Ampeg will take care of PopaWoody and from what you are telling us I think he is in good hands

Maybe your next push is lightweight stuff for people who really need it thanks.

the stuff they made back then that worked was great, but i had a couple svt-cl's fail on me during gigs, and that never happened before. but now the guys that are in charge of loud are a lot more on the ball than the previous bunch of dopes, and any new stuff that i've played since they took over has worked great and hasn't even hiccuped. so i'm convinced they're back on the good foot.

Your a resident scholar here like KJung so I will take your advice w a little more credence. I may try Ampeg stuff in the future but the 7Pro I wasn't having it. The problem was there were to many other things in that price point that I thought were a little better to my liking.
Like I said lighter is better for me :)" Class D helps me out immensely and the MB stuff I have sounds very natural to me. When I need "Ampeg" grit I use a MB Distortion almost to the point when it isn't much at all as far as setting the thing so... To each his own and I hope Ampeg come out w MORE NEO lightweight gear I wanna check it out.

that's fine. not every piece of gear speaks to everyone, even ampeg. i just thought rooting for their demise was uncalled for. the new team in charge of loud and ampeg are good people and trying very hard to keep it strong, unlike the previous idiot-led team at loud.

Besides the all tube SVT's and the 4pro that are just TOO heavy the 7pro is the first Ampeg that I've really been impressed with.

I hate graphics- check.

Great Ampeg tone- check. I say it's the best sounding Hybrid from Ampeg yet. Could be my tube, I dunno.

Headphone out, with phono line in's- check

Switchable, parallel loop with blend- check

Usable compressor- check

Light enough weight- check

YMMV

Dependable? Mine is so far. Time will tell, Ampeg has a lot of experience in the preamp section, the class D power section is the only question.

You might have been fooled, if it was a newer unit.... most use baltic birch or similar russian ply. (not that I want to do Loud's ad work, but it is good stuff)

Some of the really GOOD plywood, like the baltic birch, is so smooth that peeking in one might actually think it WAS "MDF"...... And the chinese get a lot better price on that stuff than we ever did..

We generally used "marine plywood" for baffles, which while nice, is a lot more rough and grainy-looking.... looks more like "real wood".

It's actually sorta funny, in a "no good deed goes unpunished" way....... they actually use the best grade, and it ends up looking enough like cheap MDF that folks may shy away from it.

Update: I dropped the unit off at the repair place...literally 1/4 mile from Guitar Center in Clearwater FL. 7-10 days before it hits the bench. Then if it needs parts a order from ampeg. Holidays, hopefully I have it back in January.

Sigh....this is why the protection plan should not be skipped. Live and learn the Pro plan would have replaced this.

It may have been. I will ask and check again we'll fine tooth comb it if it's still at my local GC.

eh, it's just legalized gambling. i never buy extended warranties...i play the odds. every now and then you might wish you had one, but i figure the vast majority of the stuff i bought works fine so if i get burned once or twice on a repair bill, i'm still ahead of the game.
