SVT 7 Pro Bought the farm

Good for you brah it's all good u guys want him to get an Ampeg that's great u say they are great I however do not believe it according to many many post listed here on TB stating otherwise. I am just giving him alternatives and while he was buying an amp that was $799 a MarkBass Tub800 was staring him in the face at GC for the same price and I do know one thing he wold still be playing that amp it wouldn't be in for repairs.

You were looking for a light weight amp and you chose Ampeg??
The SVT7 Pro is only 14 lbs it is a lightweight amp not as lightweight as the MB stuff but light comparatively so. GK and others like SWR are lighter like MB but it was worth a shot cause I still, believe it or not like Ampeg. It was just time to move on. Despite what people say about MB being sterile talk to KJung he'll set ya straight w specs and facts on all things amp including Genz and other micro stuff as well as the big boys too.

The only mfd Ampeg cabs were the US made ones, years 2001-2005. Since 2006 they are baltic birch. I had US made 410hlf, 810e made in Vietnam (with US speakers) and now I have chinese 15e. All of them worked great, sounded massive and I never had a single problem with them.
Hartke heads and cabs are great. I love Ha4000 thru hy dive 810. But I prefer Ampeg anyway.
All I wanna see is PopaWoody get resolution on his problem. I hope he gets a new Ampeg if that's what he wants and that it works for him 100% of the time w/o fail.

It doesn't matter if you have a top of the line amp or the bottom rung amp or somewhere in between. I love to hear bass players go at it w their gear shedding. I love the sound of an Ampeg and the balls it gives you. I love the sounds the old Acoustics give you . I also like newer stuff too Hartke MarkBass GenzBenz. I owned an Eden WT800 back in 91 when no one else knew what the hell it was so what ever you own I hope it does you justice. I wanna see PopaWoody get justice too many of the 7Pros have been wetting the bed come on Ampeg help him out.

Holy Debate!..Well I was sold on the sound of the ampeg over the markbass. Someone said that it was staring me in the face.
Yes it was staring at me, yes I played it. I was NOT in the market for a compact head. I rack my head with a rack rider in a gator case.
I was sold on the sound of the Ampeg. It sounds great and has a lot of power. I felt the markbass units were too quiet and damn ugly (IMHO).
Our keyboard is a Steelers fan, there is just no way I want to hear about my black and gold amp....blah blah blah.

A quick pop on over to the Mesa M6/M9 Carbine threads will see that there a fair number of those that seem to be failing or shutting down. But there is nobody saying Mesa Boogie is heading into the ground.
I'm interested to see how it goes at repair. All the other SVT 7 Pros seem to have failed almost out of the box, so were replaced or refunded. I haven't heard of any that have been repaired. If it's a simple fix at the repair bench, then I really don't think it's a significant issue. The Mesa Carbines that have died have been fixed efficiently by Mesa, so everyone stays happy.
Let's hope the SVT 7 Pro fix is a simple one. If so, I'll gladly buy one.

In genstormbringer's defense, I have to say that what I have read on TB has pretty much discouraged me from buying an Ampeg amp. They seem to have issues on several fronts. I almost bought an SVT-3 PRO, and honestly, I am glad I didn't.
I am happy for u and I have seen MFD cabs sorry to disappoint. I have an "in" at GC and check the stuff out before I buy. I take floor model and go thru them w a fine tooth comb. I look at the speakers see if the baffel is mfd and some of the ampegs were all of the Acoustics were. I do not know what models but I walked away. So do I know my stuff no not necessarily but I know the cabs and the SVT 7Pro I looked at were a clunkers. The cab weighed over 60lbs not good for me anyway so it was a mute point. Could it have been something that wasn't matching the years you got listed? I don't know don't care. Like I said I wish you the best w your stuff I loved Ampeg for a long time. I am moving in a different direction becasue I just recently had a disk removed from my neck between the C5 & C6 vertebrae so I wanna go light w everything. If Ampeg make a 7Pro that starts getting good reviews soon I may get one I love their sound I also love other amps too so.....
well that's your right as a consumer to support whatever company you wish to support. but i use new and old ampeg products all the time, and i think their products now are as well built as they ever were, and they sound just as good, and in the case of the cabs, better. and if i thought loud was still turning out bad ampeg products, i'd say so, and i did back when they first moved to china.
the stuff they made back then that worked was great, but i had a couple svt-cl's fail on me during gigs, and that never happened before. but now the guys that are in charge of loud are a lot more on the ball than the previous bunch of dopes, and any new stuff that i've played since they took over has worked great and hasn't even hiccuped. so i'm convinced they're back on the good foot.
As far as I know, none, or virtually none, of the Ampeg cabs ever had anything but plywood baffle boards...... just for starters, it's awfully hard to get a screw to hold in OSB..... which WAS used for some cabinet backs and sides, similar to what Electro-Voice did with "Roadwood"...
Not sure what you mean by "mfd", maybe "MDF".... i.e. Medium Density Fiberboard? Screws don't do so well in that either. MDF is stinkin heavy, too. Don't think we did any baffles with that eitehr..... you got a model number?
There was ONE type of NON-Ampeg cab that was MDF.... a powered monitor, and it was a disaster, just as I told them it would be..... chipped, broke, barely got to the store via UPS in one piece..... That got changed after about one run, and the people responsible got a "lesson learned"........

Also, for the record. Ampeg WILL be making the "Heritage Series" USA Made amps in the future. They did really well, overpriced yes, but they sold out. So as far as a US factory still being operated? Yeah, but who knows where.
7pro = not my fav thing from ampeg. Of the current heads, I'd say go w/ a 2 pro, or CL.
