SVT 7Pro compared to SVT Classic

I heard nothing but good about the Pro 7. The only 2 Ampeg amps I ever played through were Ampeg SVT Pro 2 Which is a killer Amp. Its a couple grand new I would say that was the best Amp I ever played through it had Ampeg 6x10 Cab other then paek power what is the difference between SVT Pro 2 and the Pro 4. I was thinking about buying the Pro 4. I owned BR4 it looks like a Pro 4 but they are not that loud and it sounded nice. I put the SVT Pro 2 with Aguliar 751 Head. I love the Thunderfunk head its very expensive.I played the Eden 1205 WT Head they sound really good but unreliable. I use to play a studio that had one very couple months it would be in repair

Like I said, im not trying to be insulting. In my days ive seen A LOT of guys who have problems with all kinds of amps and then it comes to light that they are cranking the low end like crazy and clipping it constantly to get more volume than the amp is designed for, or not paying attention to ohms, or using an instrument cable instead of a speaker cable, or any other goofy thing.

I always gotta wonder because in 23 years of playing ive had one amp die and one amp have a warranty replacement (this week actually, and it wasn't ampeg) for a recurring issue.

You could have a very bad string of luck with ampeg, but usually that kind of luck isnt "luck" as much as it is the person. It's just a possibility not knowing how you treat amps. Its also a possibility that that is not the case at all and you bought a whole case of lemons. If you're on Talkbass enough, believe me, you'll eventually hear every dumb thing people do and blame their gear for. So, it makes me wonder.
Either way, I hope you have better luck and better results.

I guess you disagree and have better luck with other gear?

Trust me, I love the Ampeg vibe/tone (I have 3 including a 1964 B15N that I bought from Jess Oliver) and I believe it is just bad luck - but I won't buy another 'new' one...

I bought a used SVT 7 that had been warranty repaired. It is a Rev A that was repaired and mainboard updated to Rev F. No issues after that.

I don't doubt that the classic SVT sounds better than the 7Pro. But... come on, at 59 I'll take the 65 fewer pounds! :roflmao:

Seriously though. My dream would be to always play through a SVT and 810 cab but I need the lighter weight and the option to play through four tens or eight tens depending on the club.

I seriously love playing through this rig...

Sweet rig. If you can't do it with that rig, it don't need to get done!

I love the Fender Super Bassman. Can't tell the difference in tone with the all tube SVT - but it's a heck of a lot lighter.

Got to have me a big wall of Ampeg speakers behind me though...

My 7 Pro is in a rack now and I don't want to pull it out and I never bothered to check the board's revision number, but the outside case still does say Rev C and it came from a batch that arrived in late September, I believe.

I had to wait out back orders, too, BTW.

That's true. I'm going on what it says on the chassis. I should open it up and look.

Edit: That'll take a while. It's in a rack too, and at the rehearsal room. (sigh) I'll check when I can.
