Can someone tell me the advantages/disadvantes of this amp? Also, can someone tell me what one is worth in excellent condition USA made?

Aside from having what was at the time a completely stupidly huge amount of power........... and a nice tube pre............ There is NO advantage unless it sounds good to you.

One disadvantage is that hardly anyone will know how to fix it if it ever needs fixed...... LS in St Louis is probably the source for that in US, Outside US...?????? It's fairly hi-tech in design, and I am not sure if current Loud versions (if they exist) are the same.

That said, folks who have them seem to like them........

If you tour, it will take ANY known standard mains voltage with no switches or re-wiring. You just need the right plug.

They sell new for around $2400, so I would think one in excellent condition for around 2k would be a good deal.

I have always been torn between the cool old tube vibe of a (US made) CL and an extremely powerful SVT. This amp seems to bridge the two. There are YT clips of this amp for comparison. If I had the scratch, one of these would go in my rack.

8 PRO sounds like the 4 PRO with a little more midrange growl. The voltage/tube overdrive is a little overrated in my opinion. It does not recreate the tube growl of the CL or the 2 PRO. I feel the 3 PRO sounds a little better than the 8 PRO - but not by much. it's still a decent setup, but if you are expecting the 8 PRO to be a "SVT tube amp with more headroom and lighter weight", you will be disappointed. If you want tube growl, get the real thing. If you want that Hyrbid Ampeg tone with LOTS of power, the 8 PRO is a good choice.
