Swapping jazz bass pickups

Hey all; I want to swap out the old active EMG's in my '77 Jazz Bass with some new pickups; any thoughts? Bartolini maybe?

I've had stock, Fralins and Nordy NJ4's in my J's and I prefer the NJ4's. But, like most things, tone is subjective and what I like may not be to your liking. Are you looking for more warmth, definition, low end, high end, etc...? What about the EMG's are you not liking?

I really like AERO J Type 1 pickups. Little warmer, wide array of tones. Fralin and Delano are awesome too.

I'm not really after any particular sound; just warm, punchy with some traditional jazz bass growl...the EMGs are ok...just wanted something newer and modern. I am leaning toward Bartoloni or Seymore Duncans...thoughts?

I have SD 1/4 pounders in mine and it sounds nice. Little more ballls on the botttom and nice growl. Not really sure I'd say modern sounding but good punch.

Nordstrand/Hanson and the rest mentioned all make fine pickups. I'd just select one and try it. If there isn't a real reason ( just want to try something new ) let me tell you my experience with this.

I learned a ton about wiring and how things work. That was very valuable. The tonal differences were fairly modest. I'd try to find stuff in the used section and just test them out. You won't lose as much money going this route. New, well you might lose more.

Have fun with it but don't expect to have a completely different sound afterword.
