Hey guys, looking to see if anybody has any particular insight here, I can't seem to find reliable info out there because it's not really a frequently done thing as far as I can tell.
Right now I'm rocking my Sire V7, and I love the thing. One thing I don't really care for or use is the onboard pre, I generally don't especially enjoy the bevy of EQ knobs myself. I'm more of a set-and-forget type, so I just keep the onboard switched off and set EQ with my BDDI. I have great past experience with EMG J pickups (JVX specifically), and I'm kinda itching to get back to those, so I'm planning on ordering a J5X set and wiring them up to the V7's battery box. I love the sound, and in principle I love the long-term reliability promise of the fully-encased pickups with magnets that aren't going to meaningfully weaken. Though, obviously, the sound is by far the more important of those two things.
Given as the V7 has a side-mounted jack, I'd like to continue making use of it, and forgo a normal JBass plate-mounted jack. My plan for a normal 4-hole plate is standard VVT with a 3-way selector switch, the idea basically being the thing six-string players semi-frequently do with different vol settings on different pups for different drive levels on the switch. I don't concern myself overmuch with the subtleties of blending bridge and neck to different extents, even though I do like the versatility there. In general, I am just not a knob-fiddler when I'm actually playing.
Insight and input about the plan is welcomed and appreciated, but what I'm really making the post for is just to see if anyone has any particular experience mounting a selector switch to a JBass plate. I don't know if the usual hole specs for pots are suited to mounting switches, so I don't know if it would be doable, impossible, or something where I'd need a solution to adapt. Anyone have any insight there? I'll attach an excerpt from EMG's switch specs with the measurements, for reference.
