SWR LA Series 15 100 watt amp question

Hey everyone. I will go ahead and say Thanks in advance for any input you may give. I have the above said amp and have been trying to find my power cord. I found a 3 prong that I thought was it and plugged it in and it powered on but did nothing but a loud hum. Is it common for the incorrect cord to at least power it on but not allow any sound to come out? Would the wrong cord make the amp hum?
Any advice would be helpful.

I've been gigging with this amp for about 6 years and I've switched power cords probably a dozen times, never had that problem. In fact, I've never had any problems with this amp at all, even during 3+ hour gigs where it runs incredibly hot, so I have no idea what's causing your amp to do that. My suggestion would be to take it in and have it looked at by a professional.

Would a wrong cord still power the amp? Wrong gauge, amperage,etc?
And if so, would that make it hum loudly?

I'm doubting the cord as the source of your troubles. I've had a precursor (workingmans 10) to the LA series for many years and have used several different power cords in that time and it's always dead quiet when I power it up and has never failed to power up on demand.

If it was just a buzz caused by ground issues on your house power, I'd say pick up a 2 prong adapter and try it, but buzz and no volume just from switching power cords is outside my knowledge of things electrical.

Yeah, I've got an LA15, and it'll work just fine with any standard IEC power cable - sounds like tech time to me, but I'd try a known good IEC cable 1st, and verify proper hot/neutral/ground from your power source, just to make sure...
