Hey everyone
For the longest time I've been a die hard SWR user. Recently I switch over to an all ampeg rig, but decided its just not for me. So now I am on the quest to get some SWR stuff back over time. I was thinking of going back to a Pre-fender 750. Recently I've become somewhat curious about Eden stuff though. My problem is, where I live there is no place that carries Eden amps. I was hoping to get some opinions here from talkbass peeps that have tried both and could give me their insight?

Well, I think Eden is better than SWR, but if you liked the SWR stuff you've owned, you probably won't like Eden. The cabinets are similar I believe (in fact the earliest SWR cabinets WERE Edens). But I never liked the characteristic SWR sound0- every SWR amp I've ever plugged into stamped the bass and cabinet as "SWR", which I despise. The Eden is much more transparent to my ears.

I have played both, but owned the Eden 410XL cab and 600 watt head. As far as cabs, I would say hands down Eden. They just pump out pure sweetness. As far as heads, its a toss-up but I would give the edge to SWR.

I have SWR gear for sale. I am the original owner of all three pieces and it's all pre-Frender.

*Goliath Jr. III (2x10 - 8ohm cab)
*Son of Bertha (1x15 8ohm cab)

Please let me know if you think you might be interested. I am located in Southern California. Recently switched to Aguilar for a smaller rig and new sound.

I actually just got a SWR 750 in excellent condition for really cheap. I'm still debating on the cab though. I know I wanna get an 8x10 for sure

I've used an SWR rig (SWR 750 w/ Goliath Sr.) for a few shows, and currently own an Eden setup. I also used to own an SWR SM-400S.

SWR has more of a processed or scooped tone.

The Eden has more of an organic tone.

I'm looking to get into a GK setup. I've had my Eden setup for many years, but I want something a little more aggressive.

Eden cabs are great if you don't mind the weight.

I think with swr cabs quality control is an issue when my Goliath senior barely lasted me two years while Ive had other cabs from other companies last me ten years and i sold them with no issues.

Swr does have that specific tone but you can get the swr or eden tones or pretty much any popular tone for that matter with the right pre amp. several sans amp models can pull off a svt tube sound. Eden and EBS both make pre amp pedals and swr has sold several pre amp rack mount units over the years 3 that i know of. This is why I haven't bought a new head in like decade. If I want to use a different tone I just use a different pre amp unit

i started with Eden, set it aside for SWR, and now too have GK. I'll take GK any day over the other two.

IMHO if you are looking at new do you want Fender or Washburn? If you are looking into older gear, SWR and Eden are both really pretty good. I personally give my nod to SWR. I have had various Eden amps and cabinets, but I prefer the tone I get from SWR. SWR amps work wonderfully at 2Ohms (Which I run) and set up with 3 cabinets, the Bass 750 runs at 850 watts and that my friends was big enough to play Alpine Valley Music Theatre. You should really play either or both to make your own decision because your sound will vary up what bass you use, which amp you set up through and what cabinet combo you run.. It is all a bunch of varibles and everyone can agree on 1 thing, play what you like!

Both the Eden and SWR are top notch, with differing aural characteristics. Personally, I have always preferred SWR for tone, but I like a crisp 'piano like' tone. I have played through several Eden amps over the years, but never was swayed from what I had with SWR. If you liked the 750 amp, you may want to check out an SM-1500, it is basically 2of the 750 amps for LOTS of headroom!! The only bad thing (other than price) is the weight of the amp. But MAN what a tone!!!
