SX Basses.... Really?

Here's me rockin' mine:

And here's that same bass on standby to a handmade $5k+ custom Conklin. If it sucked, it would NOT be playing backup to that bass!

I got mine for $120, a PJ. Like others said, the sound was not spot on and the fretwork and setup left much to be desired. It also looked like a cheap bass.

However, once I bought a GFH pickup for $30, taught myself how to level frets, shim a neck, and got a pearloid pickguard on it, I couldn't be happier for $150. (i sold the old pickgaurd for the same price i bought the pearloid one at)

I Love mine, for the $ you can't find a better bass. Fit and finish are excellent, sure it needs to be set up (what bass doesn't at any price ?) Change the strings ? Again first thing I do when I buy a bass. Hardware is functional could it be higher quality sure but then the bass would cost more. Bottom line is that these are great players right out of the box after you set them up. If you get a lemon Kurt at Rondo is super easy to work with just swap it for another bass. I have basses that cost 100 bucks and maybe up to 5K. I love my SX as much as any of em. Just buy one and see what the fuss is about. What do you have to lose ?

I have three - a J, a P and one of the "Jazzuar" thingies. All required nothing more than a little setting up (not a thing was touched on the Jazz except a tiny intonation tweak), and only the P got new strings. I also have an awesome SX J neck on my Frankenstein P. The original Squier neck felt like balsa wood compared to the SX.

For God's sake, yes SX's are a great inexpensive knockofff. So go buy 100 and you still won't have one Fender!!

Haw!!

Think I'll go take mine apart and sand the neck.........

Are you saying none of them will say "Fender" on the headstock? Are you saying it won't appreciate in value like a Fender? Are you saying it won't feel/play/sound like a Fender?

On second thought, don't even answer those questions, because I really don't care what you meant. I guess it meant something to you, it doesn't to me. I just play what I like.
