SX basses???

I picked up a five string J bass with an Ash body and maple neck and fretboard.

I had low expectations and was VERY impressed with it. It's been about a month and a half now and I've been playing the snot out of the thing. Great bass, not just "for the money" it's an actual great bass.

This is my next purchase, i wanted to ask, how close is This to a fender, such as the feel of the neck (thin/thick) action, playability, sound.

If you were to do a blind test with a fender and sx, could you really tell the difference? and how is the B string compared to fender B string, (the same, tighter, etc..)?

You can easily feel the difference between the SX and the Fender. While the SX's aren't bad, they are different. The SX neck is thicker, fatter, and that poly coating on mine was super thick! They were also more neck heavy than the Fender.

B String wise they were very similar. I had a set of DR Nickel Lo Riders on mine with at .130 B and it was very playable.

It's this bass: Link Removed

Barely used at all. The price you see on there is the US price, not including any tax and shipping you'd pay to get it here.

The case is this one: Link Removed

I put brand new DR strings on it as well, value $39.99 CDN.

My bass arrived at my place just before Christmas. It's a great bass for that money. Easily competes with $500 basses in the music stores. I found a great deal on another bass and need to fund that.

Love this Craiglist ad...

They vary in weight. my P bass is quite light, but my new SX Jazz is easily over 10lbs. Email Kurt @ Rondo and ask him if he would pick out a light one for ya.

The Ash bodied SX's tend to run a bit on the heavy side. The Alder ones are typicaly about the same as the equivilent Fender or possibly a touch lighter IME.

The P's will most likely run a touch lighter than the J's , generaly speaking.

I just bought an SX Jazz bass one of the newer ones, SJB 75 B MRD.
It's a version of a 75 Jazz bass with a Metallic red body, maple fretboard with black block inlays, black neck binding, and the typical jazz setup for pickups, tuners and bridge. It seems that SX has improved their basses by 3 times!
This thing is perfect! It's better than any, ANY Fender Iv'e played!
Im planning on getting a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz some time in the near future, but if SX is putting out basses like these, I may get about three more of them and scratch the Geddy! Go for one of the better ones, $149.00 to $179.00 you won't regret it!

Good point here about the Geddy Lee bass. I just checked one out at a music store recently and I have to tell you, it didn't WOW me like I thought an over $1000 bass would. My SX plays so well now that I can't imagine spending more money to get almost the same feel and sound. For what the SX's cost I would get an SX P-bass copy, maybe another Jazz copy, a Jaguar copy, heck I'd even attempt a 5 string Douglas.... Or get an extra one to hot rod and learn how to setup a bass.
