That one is sexy looking bass. The Jaguar look without the mess of switches and electronics, and the pearl block fret markers just sweeten the deal.

Now if only it was full scale!

I don't like it. The pickguard looks extremely, and disproportionately, enormous.

Just out of interest also, whats the switch on the one you posted lostrings?

Would it be overkill to put a pair of Norstrand MM4.3s and a J-Retro in that bass , so what if it would cost 3-4x what the bass did!

I put in a Series/Parallel Switch. It really works nice with the passive circuitry. I had a EMG 2 band preamp in there also, but I took it out to use on another bass. I also put darkstar pickups in it also. I did not like the darkstars at all...The stock pickups sound great. No noise and great bark. With the Series/Parallel switch it adds some really great tonal flexability. I'm thinking of adding a Audere preamp to try out.

Thought you folks might be interested in seeing a Jaguar style bass from the 60's. Fender should have gotten the hint back then.

This is my Klira 362 California DeLuxe. It's a 1965 short scale bass with passive electronics, and as you can see, in terrific condition.

The two cream rotary dials are the volume controls for each pickup. The knob on the input panel is a single tone control. The switch on the upper body closest to the bridge is to turn the pickups on or off. The switch beside the neck pickup is a series-parallel switch for the pickups. Pretty advanced for a 42 year old instrument.

I think the shortscale SX Jag is a great idea. I've seen interest in a shortscale jag several times an they jumped in to fill the void.

yeah i nearly bought the stagg one just before fender announced the jag bass..... but i waited and got the jaguar.

Thats the reason i got mine, wanted something cheaper than the real deal HHs for band practice and dodgy gigs!

No the pickguard is not broken. It's just the way the light is hitting the bass when the photo was taken giving the illusion.

Here's another shot of it clearly showing the chrome insert mounted to the upper bout.

Ah thats much clearer, in the other picture i thought it was an "added" bit of black pickguard.

GAS! That's easily one of the best looking basses I've ever seen.

Where can I get one and what are they like, quality-wise?

I was lucky and found it on Ebay. Every once and awhile they pop up. The quality is excellent. They use Alder bodys, Maple necks, Rosewood fingerboards. If you look at the back of the neck of my bass you can see that it is all flame maple. The hardware is typical korean quality.....Not bad. I personally don't have any problem with the hardware. The pickups are dead quiet being that they are humbuckers. I love the tone of this bass...I think it is where the bass shines. Also, I paid next to nothing for this bass, which makes this bass all the nicer.

Wow, this keeps on getting better! Are there any regular dealers in the US?

EDIT: I found a store on Ebay that sells them but they don't seem to carry the blue color?
