Thought I would post this project as I find it interesting and have read many others posts on the same.
Long story short - Started with a white SX PJ - planning on making it 3+1 and sanding headstock, new Gotoh tuners, new pups, sanding back to natural finish (Yes it's basswood, no I don't care), new bridge (Fender Hi-Mass). These were all the parts I had lying around (minus new pups - choice tbc). I forgot to take a photo of the bass before, but will post progress shots if anyone is interested.
One of the main things I wanted to share was how much everything weighs!
Strings - 85g (d'addario 45-105).
Neck plate & screws - 65g (stock)
Pick guard - 120g (stock)
Knobs - 50g (stock)
Machine heads & S tree - 365g (stock) - single one is 86g, new gotoh's are 67g.
Pups & pots (P+J) - 200g (stock)
Bridge 162g (stock) - Fender Hi-Mass is 238
Neck - 883g
Body (P+J) 2.25kg
misc screws etc I forgot to add to the above - 45g
Total = 4kg
Feels heavy (compared to my ibby) when I'm wearing it on the strap so a bit surprised it's only 4kg tbh.
Let's see how much weight can be lost. It's not too heavy right now and balances perfectly on the strap. I basically just want to see what happens and how it all works. Oh, and I got the bass for $50 AUD.
