SX Pickups

I recently bought mim fender pups for $10 on ebay and a SX fretless jazz bass comin in the mail.

Ive never owned or heard a SX and ive never owned or heard a mexican fender jazz bass. So is it worth it to swap the stock SXs for the MIM Fenders or should i just keep the fender pups for the bass im buildin.

The holy grail of tone always seems to be a moving target.

I'd leave the SX pups in there till you come to realize that your tone is just not quite right. Then, pull the old switcheroo to the MIMs. That way, you"ll be gold for another six months before you need to drop $300 on a new set of vintage single coils personally sweat on by Marcus Miller's butt cheeks. By then your strings will be shot and you can try a new set of hand wound steels recycled from the space shuttle. Bammo, you get another six months of bliss.

See, playing Bass is easy. :)

Sounds like a good idea and i would like to have pickups sweat on by Marcus Miller's buttcheeks:D

The stock SX pickups are great. They are "ballsy" for lack of a better term. They have ceramic magnets, and are louder than Fender pickups IME. They sound great in a band mix because of their mid presence.

+1

I have experimented with a lot of Jazz pickups in my other basses but have been very happy with the stock pickups in my SX.
