SX Ursa 2 MN 6 3TS 6 String from Rondo Music

They had a run of sunburst in 2010 that sold out. I got a sunburst in the 2011 run around Thanksgiving.

Rondo is very much about buying things in waves, especially basses.

I seriously wish the black ones were out when I got my sunburst.

Short review, the strings it comes with are utter crap, the nut needs some cleanup, but everything else about it is very, very solid, and far exceeds the price you pay.

There are a few videos out there:

SX URSA 6 STRING BASS SOUND CHECK - YouTube
"SX" 6 String J-Bass - maxproud review - YouTube

Those above are stock.

That's the same bass as the second video, but with new strings and an Audere preamp jazz plate.

I just ordered a Red six string from Kurt. I could not stand it. When they sold out of the others and the red and black came in, I bought in. I am going to trick it out a bit. I had to send in a money order to hide it from my wife:hiding: I already have 5 bass guitars. She would hit the fan if she knew I now am at six. Like everything rondo sells, the ursa 2 6 is a good value. These are 2 of my main basses:

I replaced the pup in the 5 string with alnico pups. The stock ceramics in the 6er give it a more modern sound, I have no intentions of replacing them.

I just ordered my sunburst Finally!!!! and Rondo is so cool i am sending my RED one back ( really liked it But not the color) for refund/credit and it was 7 days past 30 return and they paid the return shipping. Best Bass around for the $$$$$.

How do these compare to the other SX basses?
Is the B relatively tight? Pickup response good?

They compare very favorably to other SX basses in all departments except the pickups. The ones I left fretted (one with flats and one with rounds) don't sound bad but are a bit weaker than my 5er SX basses.

I've modded one 6er with an ebony blank plank fretless finger board and also did that to my Ursa 5er. The Ursa is HOT and the tone can make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. The 6er came out kind of meh. And output is considerably weaker. And that makes single coil hum more noticeable too.

After much setup tweaking I got it passable, but It's still not up to the level of my Ursa. I'm trying to figure out what to do. I'd like to solve both the weak pickup and single coil hum problem at the same time if I could but the sizes of the pickups makes replacements harder to find. If I find something perfect, I'll let you guys know.
