SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

It takes a bit of trial and error to coat a fingerboard with CA. I've found that if you use about a quarter sized amount to start, and smooth it out with the back of wet/dry sandpaper, it goes a little easier. Get a good coating and then level with your radius block. After it's all level, then you're ready to start polishing. If you make it through all the Micromesh grits it will leave you with a glass-like surface.

NEW 1/2 BASS DAY!!!!!! :hyper:

You've seen the beeeyoooteeeful ash body that Chuck Norriss bought.

Well, I'm the other half of the deal and the bass body just arrived at my place today!

Plan is to switch that for the alder body on my SX-6 with round wounds on it to give it a somewhat brighter tone. Also I want to try the new Audere dummy coil preamp to attempt to get rid of that single coil hum.

So now it's off to do the usual shielding and other typical SX mods...

Wow! Talk about a passing fad! That sure didn't last long!
That bass is gorgeous! Are you SURE you won't be sorry for flipping it?

I have to admit, I've taken a lot of guff for playing a 6 string bass from people who tell me to sell it and get a guitar, but this is the first time I've ever seen anyone actually TAKE the advice. :)

PS. As owner of several Ibanez 6 string basses, If you want faster and lighter I HIGHLY recommend an SR506! Usually can be found used for cheap too. Big fat modern rock tone.

the weight is precisely why--my back can't take the weight of 10 lbs for more than 15min. i'm a pussycat. not really just a bad disc.
I was doing the hollowbody thing for a while & thought I was over the disc but apparently not. can't say i didnt try anyway i just like to build basses doesnt always mean i keep them.
I just had to execute my idea & i get satisfaction from that.

For a back-weight problem nothing beats a Carvin AC50. I love mine and play it a lot. It only weighs a mere 6 lbs and 7 oz. They only come in 4 and 5 string. And I wish mine had a magnetic pickup to mix in when you want a more trad solid body tone. (One of these days a Lace sound-hole pickup will be added) And mine is fretless. But no hollowbody feedback problems and is not overly specialized like most hollowbody basses. Standard Carvin nylon wrapped strings (LaBella) are dirt cheap and sound and feel terrific! Just a killer bass...um but get out wallet...
