SX vs. Fender

DROPKICKS cool i partied with them a few times a few years back when i was a doorman security super at a big name club...ah spicey what a dude. I said i liked the sound of SX but the pups (bridge is weak) but then again i had an old no name bass that sounded as good as anything i have ever played or owned and it was plywood. I have bought and re-sold NEW gear and made profit...just gotta know people get close outs and get deals EX: bought a IBZ BTB 4 a few years back new at GC they were blowing it out on clearence for 199.00 bue to buckle and pick rash it was a store whore. I think they were going for 400.00 new at the time. took her home polished her up and planned on keeping her but just didnt buy the sound so off it went to my magic shop 2 weeks latter sold it..yep $375.00 ..she looked new and was..$$$ My last MIM was 475.00 at GC i took in a Carvin 5 that i just didnt like (poor Resale) i paid 400.00 used for it it was $1100.00 new from the guy i bought it from. Told GC i wanted 400.00 what i paid...no way they said..way i said ..you will resale for 600.00. I said see that MIM in brown sunburst i like..yep the salesman who knew me ...i said how much today if i buy here.It was 475.00 he says for you today 375.00...i said ok how much for the Carvin he said 375.00..i said no deal and started to walk out...ok ....400.00:D I made 25.00 back got the bass i wanted got rid of one i didnt ...no e-bay and bought a new case cuz i wanted one...thats the way i do it here...i'm always getting a deal and make a buck.

plus they say ...Fender.

And it's been fairly obvious since your first post that the above is an unusually high priority for you. Since I bought the bass to play it and not to sell to stupid teenagers I'm perfectly happy with the SX. In fact, I'll put it up against most basses bone stock and I'll put it up against any bass since I've done the upgrades and setup. I've got 25 years of experience and a pretty good ear to back it up. It has nothing to do with being a cult, it has to do with making recommendations to people that ask who don't have the money to waste on a name and want a good instrument to play. Musical snobs can buy whatever they want, but the SX basses are solid.

You do have one thing right: The way to make the SX overpriced is to put Fender components on it.

Bassbully, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion... While I may disagree with people on occasion (or more :D), I do respect everyone's opinion.

Factually speaking, you are certainly in the minority when it comes to your stance on the SX basses. For the price, nothing will touch them. And as I've said earlier, my current SX (my first of likely several) far surpassed anything I've seen from an MIM to date. And with the very well known QC issues with the MIA line, I wouldn't surprised one bit if an SX kicked an occasional MIA's butt.

You talk about resale value, etc... A custom Conklin will run you into the $4-5k area. Try and get half that on resale. I will bet MY custom Conklin you will not. It's the same for many custom builders. Does that mean the craftsmanship is poo on said Conklins? Obviously not. Does that mean I'd rather one of them there Fenders over my Conklin? I'd rather castrate myself with an olive fork! :D

With my SX, I've found a cheap, and intelligent reason never to buy a Fender product. I don't give a yak's ass if the headstock doesn't say what some dude thinks it should say. YMMV, of course, but I'm all sorts of happy. ;)

I didnt buy them to sell in the first place they didnt cut it...Stupid teenagers...Wow! that not cool since i have three:scowl: Anyhow whatever dude...dont care what you play your ear what ever i offered my views on this thread and I feel SXs are overrated and dont touch Fenders MIM and hold about even with the newer Squiers. To say over a MIM and up to an MIA is a joke...to the point if i asked anyone on this board "hey...heres a free new SX or heres a free MIA standard Fender take your pick yours free which would you take? Better grab your SX..oh no dont say well i'll take the Fender since it cost more and is worth more...stick to your guns dude go for that SX...while your at it sell of your brand names and save money....i would. I never bashed SXs tone or playability i said i liked it..weak pups but they sound good...i just dont like to fork out cash right out of the box and i gave my views to another on this board who asked a question on SX vs Fenders ....since i am a jazz fan and owned both i have info for him..sorry if it isnt what you feel is correct...come to think of it do or have most of you even owned a MIM to compare an SX to or are you just comparing to ones you have played in a store etc? This thread is dead to me i did what i came to do give info i'm sick of stupidity and bashing. This is not worth my time as i found the same before Sx has wasted again:hmm:

I'd take the MIA...

then, take it home, take a few pics of it, post it FS here. Use the cash from it to buy SXes.

My God, you're hard to read! Ever heard of paragraph structure and punctuation?! You're playing havoc with my ADD :D

Savit, that gig looks like a real sausage fest! Hope you guys get paid well to play for an audience of almost all guys ;)

So listen, I think we should put off this discussion about Fender vs. SX until my new SX 57P arrives. Then I will post my thoughts, which everyone can consider "definitive."

I sure like the 57P I just received, but I can't get happy with the white pickguard (minutia, I know). I love the maple neck, though. :hyper:

Yup. Got paid very well for that one. :D

Plenty of girls in the back and on the side out of harms way. :D

Honestly, there's no way on earth I would trade my personal Blue SX SPB for a new American Series Precision. Nor would I trade it for any high end Fender clone. Sorry, I've got a very nice bond going with that particular bass, and I haven't played a new MIA that is as comfortable in my hands as that SX. Believe me, If I found a new Fender I liked better than my SX, I'd buy it. You can call me crazy, but it's true.

WOW! You're way too defensive. I never bashed you, and certainly never called YOU stupid... I am sorry that you can't reciprocate such a statement.

I will say that you twisted my words. It's too late in the eve for me to quote the various areas you misquoted me (Example: saying an SX is better than an MIA outright).

If you are going to paraphrase what I say, please just do it accurately.

Well I'll be. I definitely did purchase a badass 3, and it definitely mounts with 3 holes. :-/

Ooops.

Well the good news is, if you want to do the string through the body thing, you can do it with that bridge. It would take a little bit of modding to do, but shoudn't be a big deal. I bet a luthier wouldn't charge you too much to do the job if you weren't confident enough to do it yourself. And yeah, I've seen some of the BAIII that come with the saddles pre slotted. :D
