Well - I finally got a T-40! I saw this one on eBay on a super low-cost "Buy It Now" and couldn't believe my sleepy eyes. My gut feeling was that it was a scam, but it was worth the gamble. It was shipped ONLY in the case with a strip of packing tape around it! Anyway, it is in pretty good shape, and the truss rod quickly took an adjustment to perfect. I msut say that the overall design and build quality of the T-40 is incredible. A bass simply could not be built better and stronger than the T-40.
However, It was re-wired by a monkey at some point. Empty holes for the switches, a dangling maze of wires and the output jack was replaced with a plastic one that was hot-glued in! Today's project will be to install new switches and jack, clean the pots and re-wire it.
After adjusting the neck, there was significant string buzz after the 12th fret. I was adjusting the bridge when I realized that the problem was that the strings were hitting the neck pickup, and I couldn't adjust it to go lower - the screws had no effect.
Since the pups are mounted in frames - Is there supposed to be some springs that push the pups down when you back off the screws?
