I siad this in another thread a while back, I'll say it again.

I was at NAMM several years ago. If anyone's ever been to NAMM, especially before they started imposing noise restrictions, you know what a wank fest fest that place can be. Thousands upon thousands of musicians checking stuff out and showing what they've got (or not). You get numb, or at least I did, after a while.

I think it was one of the last days that I was there that I was checking something out at a booth and I heard this really smoking bass playing coming from a booth around the corner. I just thought, "wow! that dude can really freeking play!". Whatever the 'dude' was doing just sounded full of everything a bass should sound like, and then some. wanted to see who it was imagining some 60 yr. old black guy (yeah, I said it)... and lo and behold, it was a little girl. I was completely freaked out and stood there in utter amazement along with a couple of other people. About a year later I saw a post here about some new girl on the bass, and lo and behold. If I'm not mistaken that NAMM was where she got her initial recognition, and believe me - there's something in her playing (not her looks) that REALLY jumps out and sets her aside from the countless other jass players I've seen or heard. She turned my head on account of my ears alone, and I was at a point that particular NAMM where nobody was doing that for me any more. Her cuteness just completes the package in a totally awesome way.

+1 to that. The one thing that everyone who has heard her live has told me is that she plays "old" in terms of her feel and musicality. That "thing" in a player is rare and only happens every so often but people can tap into it if they really immerse themselves in Music.
That "thing" is why you may be the best technically, gear-wise, and even looks-wise for a gig and get passed over because someone "just feels better" as a player.

Seriously - my BG improved my bass-ing exponentially - it damn near plays itself! I just picked up my Fender Jazz the other day and was appalled... still love my Ric and Ripper, though...
