Talk Me Out of It (700 RB)

The one pawnshop in town that doesn't overprice year has a very clean GK 700RB for $180. Everything works, and it sounds great.

I don't really need it, as the tone from my Music Man HD150 is good and it's loud enough. However, I kind of want it... Just because.

The fact that the store has layaway makes it worse.

Buy it and use it?
Buy it and try to turn a profit?
Walk away and be happy?
Hope someone else buys it?
If you want it BUY IT.
You can use it as a backup amp.

I went back in and tried it. It's dead quiet, as in, I couldn't get any sound out of it. I'm thinking it could have something to do with the crappy cables they have. The guy helping me didn't know there is a difference between instrument and speaker cables, and all of their cables have a right angle end on one end that looks like it isn't going in all the way, no matter if it's on the amp or cab side.

I told him he shouldn't use instrument cables out of amps, but he acted like he thought I was talking out my butt. We got a weak sound that would come and go.

While I was there, I sold a bass, amp, and gig bag for them to a kid that wants to learn. I pointed him away from the cool looking Rogue to a decent Ibanez, and away from a guitar amp to a bass amp. I gave the kid a 15-minute lesson on the basics and told him to call me after he's made noise for a week so I could give the bass a setup.

I made sure the shop gave him a good deal, but also told the guys that the kid was going to walk away because no one was helping him. They owe me.

Oh, back to the head- I'll go back with a proper cable and see what it does. There would always be a nagging thought about if they smoked it by using instrument cables. The first time I tried it, it was great...

I was in Bozeman this past September and went into that Walmart late at night and I swear they were playing "Seaguls! (Stop It Now)" over the store sound system. Seemed strangely out of place but awesome!

I can't stand Walmart. Late at night is the only time to go in there if you don't want to be surrounded by rude people.

Supposedly, it's the only brown Walmart in the lower 48 because of Bozeman's strict zoning laws.

If it is "smoked" as you said, and if you have any interest in doing so, those things can be brought back to life on the cheap assuming the issue isn't with the transformer (which is probably the hardest to find, most expensive, but also probably least likely to have failed component). Version II parts are drop-ins for the version Is, and are Invalid Link Removed. It assumes that you can get an even better deal on a broken amp... but really, what's that worth to them?

It also shouldn't be hard to determine where the problem is in regards to pre or power board.

Maybe get them to give it to you for helping out with the kid, and then rescue it from its terrible existence in the pawn shop!

The Walmart here in Roseville California is also brown, but its facade is smooth and rather boring looking. Your Walmart in Bozeman looks better because of the textured facade.
I don't exactly know what, but it says something about us that we are comparing Walmarts.

Well, I walked out of the shop with it today. I also got a Crate BT1000, which is a 100 watt (they say) kickback style combo I got because my drummer wanted a bass monitor it's decent and has a DI and extension speaker output.
The 700 checked out well with no issues. I got them both for $220.:bassist:

And the combo
