Thanks Chris for your help. This is a duet inspired by a recording I heard Eric Hochberg do years ago. Really liked the bass and vocal interplay. Different key, slightly different feel. My wife Sara is singing. It's a reworking of Freddie Hubbard's "Up Jumped Spring".
Very nice Trey! I’ve always found chordless duo playing to be one of the most difficult to play. Which of course makes it one of the most enticing. You guys did a great job of it, and Sara has a lovely voice. Where did you record this?
That sounds great! Nice playing, and lovely singing. I have yet to play with a singer who can hit the right notes on “I got a look at you” at the end of the first A section anywhere near as well as Sara does.
Although I made more money in music, she is hands down the more natural musician. She's also a great guitar player who knows all the adult chords and she had lots to do with the arrangement of this effort. Thanks so much. I'll let her know.
Thanks so much for the kind words Chris. It was fun to do and always a challenge to get a bass sound I like. Long story short:About 4 year ago I had to have a titanium pin put into my right hand pointer finger. After 50 years of playing bass, it seems there was no more cartilage left in that first joint. Since I couldn't play for 6 to 8 months or so, I was determined to figure out how to work a DAW system. Most of my friends were using Pro Tools in their home studios so that's what I got. It was a steep learning curve but glad I did it. It allows me to send bass files to people who want them as well as record stuff that interests me or Sara. We've done a few of these duet things. This was a product of a few Pro Tools sessions also using a Focusrite Scarlett pre amp and two mics that are knock offs of the Nueman 87. Not really mixed but the levels seem pretty OK. Sara has great ears, is a really good guitarist and probably a more natural musician than me. Also easy on the eyes. We met in an LA studio over 40 years ago. We have two grown sons. It's been a wild ride.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out! It's a fun tune to play. It is a loose contrafact on lady bird. I am lucky to have such great people around me to play with. I don't think any track on the record needed more than two takes.
