This is my main band, the Madison Jazz Orchestra, playing the Kenton arrangement of "Bernie's Tune," a bass feature. Enjoy!

It's from a Zoom recorder in the audience, so I don't know if you're hearing mostly my amp or the PA. This band doesn't need much help to fill a room. The setup is pretty basic, my Romanian carved bass, Full Circle, one of my preamps, Radial JDI, GK MB200, and my homemade 8" speaker.

Great track! I'm still trying to get the count together. I also have a request to say greetings to Mr.(Dr?) Heglund. I had reacquainted with him at the Reno Jazz Festival several years ago but still remember him as a talented young player back in Mn. I'm glad he has been so successful. Good on you, Andy.

I like that a lot. I've been working on my arco soloing, so it's nice to hear your approach.

Big band is a hoot. I've been doing it for a long time, first in high school and college, but with this band for many years now. Needless to say, what a composer can do with a large ensemble is unique. Perhaps the only downside is that there's not a lot of space for bass soloing. Most of the solo sections are written for a specific instrument.

It's been fantastic for my reading chops. ;)

Ditto. I also learned a lot from playing DB in a big band for about ten years. About half the charts were lead sheets and about half had the bass part written out. I learned a lot from both forms, and had a blast doing it.

The band sounds crisp great and you sound great.

I play in a big band. I get to solo 3-5x / year. You get it.

Back in the day, we used to have a thread entitled "The Johnson Chronicles" where we shared recordings that we were featured on. Nowadays we have the "YOU on YouTube" thread, but not everybody makes a video every time they record music, so I thought it would be nice to start another iteration for audio files without video and see if it might grow legs. It would also be a nice break from so many gear related topics and let the membership get to know each other better as musicians instead of just consumers. That's what I remember being so great about the old threads like this.

A few suggested ground rules:
- Recordings should feature the Double Bass in the ensemble since we're on this side of the board.
- Link to only a single tune rather than a whole album or playlist so it doesn't become overwhelming to think of approaching listening to the content of the thread.
- And maybe limit contributions to one tune per week per person? Something like that. Not meaning to limit the thread to one tune per week, but only contributions by each individual so that potential listeners don’t get overwhelmed and bail.
- Links to audio files can be held on Dropbox or any cloud server and linked here.
- If anybody doesn't have access to a cloud server but wants to share a track, shoot me a PM and I can host a track for you in my Dropbox.
- Comments are welcome as long as they are constructive.

I'll start with an arrangement I did this fall of Yardbird Suite that I wrote for one of my student groups, then recorded with our faculty jazz group from the U. I've always loved the tune but am tired of playing it in a beboppy way, so it came out as a sort of ECM hymn vibe.

Really enjoyed hearing this. Cool arrangement. Your bass sounds great, as does everyone else. Love your relaxed feel amidst all the polyrhythmic chaos in a few of the solo spots. Guess this might be my new "go to" thread for awhile.

In the spirit of the beginning of this thread, here is an unaccompanied bass intro (plus the tune, Slow Brew) from a Signal Quartet performance at the Blue Llama in Ann Arbor back in January. I have to say that, for me, an improvised bass intro can be really hit or miss but FWIW I like this one. We might be releasing a live record using some of the material from that night.

Life is good. We moved off island to a spot called Summerlin about 20 miles NorthWest of Las Vegas. It's up in the hills and overlooks the valley. Quite different from Kauai but beautiful in its own way. People drive like their hair is on fire and everything is rush, rush but it's perfect for where we are in life at this point. Lots of music here and lots to do. All the Best Chris.

Not a “recording” per se, but I just recorded with this wonderful singer and fiddler named Mia Friedman this weekend. We were able to get vocals, fiddle, banjo, and bass tracked are now getting horns dubbed. Here’s a video from last year of one of the songs we recorded. It has been really nice getting to play with singer-songwriter in a group that is not a standard “jazz” group. We’ve been calling her music “improvised chamber folk”, and it’s been refreshing to play.

Isfahan from a live gig last week. Takes a minute to settle-funky count off. Juzek 7/8 bass with Sonores Helix strings. Mic'd with a Sennheiser 609. These strings are so nice! Check out the interplay during the drum solo.

Nice! I love the chordless trio format. It's intense because everything is so exposed, but also intimate because everything is so easy to hear.
