Taming my Pedulla Rapture!

As I recall, Pedulla's version of the NTBT doesn't have a gain potentiometer, though the wires are there if you want to add one (as I have done, because I also installed a passive bypass switch).

Two pickup basses tend to cancel certain frequencies when both pickups are on. If you use both pickups on the Roscoe, perhaps that's coloring the midrange in a way that you like. Words can be so imprecise when trying to describe tone.....

BTW, I'm presently mixing an album for some friends... and trying to slot a really distorted bass into the mix (my Ric 4001 was used on some tracks). Want the tone to be fat, gnarly, and aggressive, yet controlled enough so that it doesn't sound obnoxious. Lots of little (and some big) EQ adjustments!

Bryan, I looked for a gain pot on the pre and couldn't find anything... not saying it doesn't have one, but I sure didn't see one!

Probably depends on what Bart pre you have. The NTMB has a gain pot in a little blue box with a tiny adjustable screw.

Thanks guys! This at least gives more new places to start working from. I'll take another look for a gain pot on the pre and give that a shot.
I play my Roscoe evenly split between both p/u's or bridge only. It does get more agressive on the bridge p/u, but not nearly as much as the Rapture does.

I've played with the gain pot on my MVP4 (P+J) and it's never affected the tone. I imagine it would play a role when the line volume matters; like when you'd go threw a pedal. But just straight into my amp it's only changed the output level.
The aggressiveness of my MVP is dependent on my right hand tech.
I know they're totally different animals; but just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

Unfortunately I did not get the time to spend with the bass last night, nor will i have any time to try out your suggestions until next week as I am heading north for four fun filled days of fishing and perhaps pouring some brown pop down my neck!

Though I have a JJ Rapture 5 , I had the same problem with my TC rh450 at my gig last saturday. I got rid of most of that overdrive kind of sound by dialing back the hi mid about 3 clicks and boosting bass and lo mid . I think the natural sound of the bass has more to do with the maple body than anything else still it is a good trade off considering how nice and light the bass is weight wise .
