Gibson had real Nylon Tapewounds in the late 60's. When you played them for too long, they actually started to peel.

The ETB92 Nylons on my Am. Std. Precision, have worked great with Fender Bassman 500 / Ampeg SVT-410HLF setup. The two jazzes play well with the setup also.
I've had LaBella black nylons on my Ibanez acoustic bass six or seven years now. I don't miss the bronzy clank. Love 'em and my wife, especially likes their thump! Thinking one of these days I should put some on my Squier fretless, too. Maybe even my Am. P.
Ukiah Bass, I loved your playing and tone on that cut "Mule". (I usually play "sparely", too - too many notes are too many.)

My Am. Std Jazz, with D'Addario ETB92 Nylons. The only strings I use. No problems here.

It simply depends on what You are playing. The Daddario tapes are great for old school sound, but they are not suited for every bass and they are, of course, not universal strings.
I currently have the tapes on 3 instruments where i really like their sound, but on at least one of them i need more overtones in order to play flageolets - and this requires at least halfrounds / brite flats. The tapes are too heavily damped just in the range of the most important overtones for that.
(I just tried: fresh TI flats *are* well suited for that...)

I finally tried my ETB92 equipped (fretless) Jazz at high volume this weekend, and noticed that there was significant buzzing that went away if I touched the bridge. Maybe I'll just put my default Fender flats on it, as shielding seems to much work.
I remember years back I purchased D'Addario tapes and didn't like thee scooped sound on my Squier Fretless. This was years back though when I wasn't taking the time to sit down and play the Fretless until lately I'm heavy playing my Fretless.
Currently own a 5 string Fretless Brice and my purchases will be the the La Bella white Tapes. Stoked for payday!

Just put a set of the Labella Game of Death tapes on my fretless Spector. I love the Labella White tapes so this was a no-brainer for me. Nut file required for the B, but not a biggie. I LOVE them.
Those work really well with that finish.
I love the D'Addario black tapes on my P bass, with the Quarter Pounder pickup. That combination really goes whammo.
Instead of inventing such strange designs they should rather fulfill my order of a set of short scale gold white tapes. Finally...
I thought some ETB92 Nylons would go good on this Am. Std. Fretless Jazz. It sure sounds good.
Hi I have not looked at this thread for a while and not sure if I am in the club, but no matter. I have La Bella whites on my MIM jazz and loved them for about 6 months, then started to hear muddiness late last year. I bumped the mids on my Markbass amp and that helped a bit. I recently replaced the stock pickups with Tonerider alnicos and have a new world of sound, tone and responsiveness. I have some slinkys to try next and might move the whites to my acoustic bass which is so noisy with its stock wire rounds. I see some of the posts mention acoustics so is the consensus that white tapes work well on acoustics?
