The D’Add’s are great... but I liked those and I LOVE the LaBella whites. They’re just better for what I want and have just a touch more stiffness. I never thought tapes would work for hardcore but they definitely do.

There's a set of D'Addario tapes here waiting to go on my 'Ray. But the Black Beauties on the 'Ray are barely broken in, so it's a matter of time. Or just eagerness. Considering La Bella white tapes for the 'Ray, too as the gold and copper tapes aren't available in extra long (to my knowledge).
37" string winding length isn't long enough for your 'Ray? Is it because of thru body stringing? No top bridge load option?
No idea whether you are aware or not that it is only the E and A strings (and low-B in case of 5 string sets) which winding length is 37" on these La Bella's long scale sets. The D and G winding length is always 38" on both long scale and extra long scale sets.

Put the La Bella Copper White Nylon Tapewounds on my five-string (E-C) fretless Warmoth Wenge G bass. Not only do they sound nice, but the copper color pairs well with the Wenge body and the Bocote fingerboard. I'm taking pics of my whole bass collection in a few weeks. I'll post some photos then.
These strings replaced the Labella black nylon tapes, which also sounded pretty good, but the copper tapes have a unique sound that brings out all the possibilities of my dual mag-piezo pickup system better.

What color windings do your La Bella Copper White Nylons have? I have a couple of La Bella white tapewounds but don't remember which is which.

I'd like to use D'Addario ETB Nylons on the Hofner 500/1 Violin, but they don't make a string that will fit the winding pegs. I mentioned the issue with a D'Addario rep a year, or so ago, and he basically said they have no intentions of manufacturing the Hofner Beatle Bass design string, because it wasn't a large enough demand for it to make it worth while. So La Bella 760NHBB Nylons on the Hofner.
I've tried these out at home so far and have a gig at the weekend so they will get a blast then but so far they sound fine, not as mellow as I expected and more top end than I expected too. They are a lot more flexible and less tension than my regular strings D'addario pro steels 45 - 130 so i've had to adjust the truss rod a bit to get some relief back. Finger noise is virtually non existent.
I received my La Bella's today.
I received my La Bella Nylons today from the TB store. Great that they had the strings in stock, and had prompt service for getting them to me. Now I'm just waiting till Thursday for the Hofner to arrive.

I have 2 short scale Jaguar basses that I have Tapes on, one has D'addario's and the other La Bella Whites(strung BEAD). I also have a set of D'addario's on an Ibanez semihollow bass. Love the tone I get with these strings.

I’m loving the black nylon labellas on my Star Bass. Takes a tad getting used to since they are less tension than flats and are a tad stickier and rubbery so my plucking hand tends to twist them ever so slightly with my hard attack. Learning how to be more gentle haha.
Does the tone ever ‘settle’ like flats? They actually are brighter than my previous flats set and I’m hoping they wear in a bit more so they have more low end character.

I really like the tapes, feel is pretty nice. I feel like the labellas I got lack a bit of mods and I lose a bit of growl compared to regular flats. Also, at home they sound great and my bass is quiet, but seems more than not playing outside my home results on grounding issues, which is partially resolved with my thumb on the metal pickup, but I move my right hand pretty liberally so the ground noise just comes in and out constantly. During louder parts and all that it’s unoticable, but ballads/quilter tunes I can hear it live and while listening to playback.
Sad to say, but I think they have to go. I may try another set of flats or even go for the DR Black Beauties and try to wear them in ASAP.

Hello everyone. I'm trying to find a set of low-ish tension strings to provide maximum upright bass vibes. I've never tried black nylon tapes before, and I'm curious. However, in the bit of reading that I've done, I'm surprised to learn that many tape sets are roundwound under the tape wrap. I'm looking for maximum thump, minimum high end. Low-ish tension and high-ish flexibility would be a bonus, but not necessarily required.
I'm looking forward to flipping through this thread for some research, but if anyone could help me out with some suggestions while I catch up on 53 pages that would be great!

I have D’Addario flatwound taped on both of my basses. Great sound and feel. I have medium gauge on both. Upright bass sound is my goal for many Jugband songs we do, I like them on both the MK acoustic bass guitar and the fretless JazzBass
Thanks. What's the general vibe of the sound on the D'Addario? Old school thumpy, or subdued roundwound?
Dear Tapewound Club, I have a question for those who are familiar w/people who have used Labella Whites & Blacks:
I'm building a short scale active PJ bass, specifically to use with tapes.
Looks like I'm going to go with whites or blacks, since that's the only short-scale options--otherwise I might be looking at Coppers.
The bass has EMGs w/a BQC preamp, which means I have a ton of EQ control on tap, so I can probably darken the whites as needed, or brighten the blacks.
My question for y'all is do the strings attack/articulate differently? In the past I've not been a fan of traditional tapes' tendency to sound super boomy on higher frets on the E string. On most any bass (with any kind of strings) a B fretted at the 7th fret on an E string is always boomier than fretted at the 2nd fret on an A string, but on the tape sets I've had the boominess was really over the top.
So my very specific question: do you think the white set will be less boomy than the black set on higher fretted notes on the E string?
Like I said, I can EQ either string to taste. The blacks will look cooler on this bass, but if the whites are less boomy than I might choose them instead.
